a conspiracy of adults to corrupt children

For its entire duration I was watching this film with a big frown on my face. This film felt SO WRONG! It may be a testament to how decadent and perverted the American Way has become since the seventies, that it is thought artistic when a nine year old is preparing smack and helping someone shoot up, or place it in such overtly sexual and peadophilic situations. How can her folks let her be in a movie that she is not allowed to see until she is sixteen? Any parent who thinks about this for a moment would agree. Filmmakers shouldn't be allowed to drag someone of this age into this kind of horror, even if it is all fake and make believe, just for the satisfaction of their own egocentrical 'artistic' needs.
I thought I was a big Gilliam fan but obviously I am mistaken. It really is about time he retired, along with the rest of his generation of filmmakers.

What the hell does that even mean???

It means you suddenly decided you aren't a 'fan' of someone because they dared to make a film that doesn't adhere to your moral code.

Keep that mind nice and closed, champ. You will sleep well every night knowing the world is such an amazing, trouble-free place.

Never defend crap with 'It's just a movie'

I'm glad this film made you uncomfortable. It was supposed to.

We have a spirited young girl with a vivid imagination forced to entertain herself for long periods of time. Wo?hat does she do? She does what all little girls do. She plays house. She plays dress up. She plays dolls.

We have mentally handicapped playmate for her who is also childlike. He does what children his (mental) age do: he plays house. He goes along with her pretend and her drama.

But it is the audience . . . the only participants to this fantasy that know something they don't. The audience. The only ones who know this is a grown man. At least he appears to be. Yes, and you begin to squirm in your seat. You think to yourself how this is wrong on so many levels.

This is not child abuse. This is not even close. There are so many closeups in this movie, scenes done with only the actress and cameras. To worry about this actress indicates you don't really know much about film making. But, you did feel it, no? Her father is dead yet in the house. She is playing house with a grown man. She is helping her dad shoot heroin. She is running out of peanut butter. Everyone around her is dead or crazy. Yes, you should feel uncomfortable.

I found it hard to watch. I wanted so bad for someone to rescue this child. She seemed quite happy laughing and romping most of the movie. She and her doll heads. I found myself wondering if God was going crazy before he created companions. Or are we just part of His insanity? And then I thought . . . why? So I can feel better? So she can have her spirited wings clipped and learn how to be "normal"? Food for thought.
