Who is the worst local character?
3rd worst: the large plumber
2nd worst: Elaine
Worst of all: the park ranger
Where's your crew?
On the 3rd planet.
There IS no 3rd planet!
Don't you think I know that?

worst: Lousia
second worst: penhale
third worst: the pack of girls
Best: Doc Martin of course
2nd best: buddy!
The worst would be PC Penhale - what a useless copper! Sorry mate but true.
Second some of the nasty yet 'modern' type of rude school kids too many to count.
Third the pack of time wasting girls
I'd agree completely about PC Penhale - especially in the last few episodes I've seen in the current series.
Elaine drove me nuts too early on.
She doesn't qualify as "local" exactly, but Edith Montgomery I did not care for at all.
What's with all the flak towards PC Penhale?
He's one of my favourite characters - him and Bert Large! In fact, I struggle to find anyone to dislike in the cast. Brilliant ensemble of characters.
If there aren't any skeletons in a man's closet, there's probably a Bertha in his attic.
Yeah, I don't understand all the Penhale hate, either. I find it rather endearing how he's always trying to make friends.
shareAfter seeing season 7, Gemma Jones' Annie Winton is now by far the worst, with her son a close second.
shareUgh. I'd have to add her to my list, too. I was getting so mad, listening to her continually get all sanctimonious about how anyone would do what she was doing if they truly loved someone. Um, no, everyone's not an entitled ignoramus.
I was glad doc recommended a psych eval at the end, so as to imply that is definitely not normal behavior even when you love someone. She was just being daft and selfish.
Seeing as Penhale gambols about armed with a Taser nowadays, why should a little occasional flak be a problem?
shareI agree. Penhale may not be the greatest cop out there, but he's not the worst. And personally, he's a great guy; he just tries too hard to be friends. I love when he insists that he's Doc's best man (is it at both weddings?).
Bert is great too. He's very generous and understanding. He seems to have the same need to consider Doc his close friend, even though he considers him "Bodmin"! But I think the whole town would agree (except perhaps Mrs Tishell!).
How do you convince all your friends to get baptized so you can make monster movies?
Who is the worst? Everyone.
Most people in town are more rude and self-centered than Dr. Ellingham. They just smile and gossip with each other about how rude he is while ignoring the medical advice, etc.
And they are just stupid and undermine themselve. How many times has, for the best example, Bert Large got to ignore heath, safety, law and regulation, has got to screw over his friends and family, and they still do things for him and trust him with stuff. Three examples: Bert took the emergency fund from Penhale on his survival thing, Bert (apparently) charged the Ellinghams for their honeymoon gift, Bert totally screwed up feeding the kids at the school.
So if it has to be one person: Bert. But the town enables him and many, many others with crappy behavior by letting the keep doing things. I would not even talk to Bert if I lived there, and certainly wouldn't eat at his restaurant, which would continue not letting him do my plumbing.
1. The pack of walking girls
2. The pack of walking girls
3. The pack of walking girls
You're soooo right ehs..
Those girls are just a hemorrhoid...
Penhale is a ~close~ second. For SOME reason (?) most shows seem to need one idiot.. which is a waste of air time...
~~~~~~~~~~~~
First they say it's tourist season; then they arrest me for shooting one !
I never did understand the point of them. They add nothing to the show.
shareMrs Tishell, the pharmacist.
sharepenhale. he's such an idiot. makes the previous poiceman they had look like a genius.
