i will rather agree with this movie being the worst of 2007..........
wht a crap!
lets just stick to that.... for now.
Yes I agree with you. It's one of the most moving films I've ever seen.
shareAn absolute landmark in cinema, the piano melody throughout really moved me as it complimented what was happening in the narrative, but all in all, one of the most profound and moving film experiences i've had in a while, precisely how I feel about the sheer awesome power of the human imagination, this movie really speaks volumes.
I love very much the perspective of Jean Dominique Bauby in the beginning, it was completely startling and immersive, not to mention this allowed us to become deeply attached to this character, both emotionally and spiritually, while his ordeal took new and strange turns, as his imagination flung wildly under the immense pressure of this traumatic event, I for one became unspeakable moved by the poignancy and poeticness of the images, and his slow reflection of that which defined his life, throughout the making of his book, really amazing stuff.
I celebrate films like this, they give me hope for the future of cinema as an art form, and for the future of humanity.

I think one of the most affective and surprising moments in the story for me, comes in the beginning when they extract his right eye completely from his perspective.
Wow. I've never seen anything like it.
I have not either. In addition, I can not recall a movie being told from one good eye along with " Locked in Syndrome "... has anybody else?
shareI agree. And since everyone else is doing it, here's my top 5 (out of the one's I've seen)
1. Diving Bell and the Butterfly
2. There will be Blood
3. The Assassination of Jesse James
4. Into the Wild
5. Gone Baby Gone
I also really enjoyed Charlie Wilson's War and Juno. I didn't like No Country for Old Men but I guess I was expecting a lot based on what everyone was saying. I've only seen it once and I want to watch it again because sometimes I just don't "get it" the first time I watch a movie. And I thought Sweeney Todd and American Gangsger were pretty good, but not great. There are quite a few I haven't seen yet that I want to see like La Vie en Rose and Atonement. I had also never heard of 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days but now I'm really curious and would like to see it. (Please forgive me, I'm from a really small town that never gets any good movies, I had to drive an hour just to see No Country, Pan's Labyrinth, the Darjeeling Limited, etc. my theater here only gets "blockbusters")
Just saw it on tv for the first time...or rather, bits and pieces of it; the beginning and then about the last third of it. I love arthouse films, foreign films, 'different' flicks. But couldn't figure out whether it was brilliant or thoroughly depressing -- or both. Fantastic camera work. Really good acting, especially Jean-Lo. Yet, it was beyond sad. I don't need fluff and light heartedness in every movie I see yet this cast a pall over my day and perhaps the rest of the week.
shareBrilliant film with exceptional photography.
All actors were superb, a very moving addition to the list of best films of 2007 alongside 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days and Into the Wild.
I wonder how I'll remember 2007 after ten years have gone or something, because it seriously is one of the greatest years of film in my opinion. There is so much really good to great work that came out that can hardly be equalled. I seriously loved I'm Not There, Sweeney Todd, No Country For Old Men, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, There Will Be Blood, Eastern Promises, I enjoyed Juno a great deal, Into the Wild was very interesting, the last act is really great I thought in that one. Gone Baby Gone was a real surprise to me, the first great one that came out was Zodiac, very unique and creepy, and so truthful. American Gangster was beautifully filmed, but I didn't like the story. Mr. Brooks was surprisingly entertaining, not great by any means.
And to mention I still haven't even seen Atonement, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Control, Michael Clayton, Reign Over Me, The Savages, Lars and the Real Girl, Lust, Caution, La Mome, etc.
The real stinkers of the year for me were Ratatouille and the Grindhouse project that sort of lost its meaning when it was cut up. I thought Death Proof was terrible, but I loved Planet Terror. Another stinker I might add was The Bucket List.
Best film of 2007, I really can't say, it's probably There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men is a close second but the films are so very different in nature they're hard to compare.
