Chauvinism and cheap patriotism is the trademark of many yanks, sadly. Here we have another proof. The OP is so blinded by his jingoism that he cannot see that the movie doesn't criticize the entire nation but just the bunch of crooked politicians, military, and companies who are behind weapons traffic.
Besides he or she, conveniently decides not to mention that Andrew Niccol criticizes everyone from the former USSR generals to dictators, drug-leaders and "freedom fighters" or "terrorists" (how you define them, usually depends more on your personal bias than on the actions of those groups, for they, more often than not, are pretty much the same).
The character of Yuri Orlov is highly cynical and he knows that everyone is corruptible and that even himself and the interpol agent are only pawns in the big scheme.
Finally, It's not the fault of Andrew Niccol the fact that USA is the main manufacturer and supplier of weapons to the rest of the world, neither the fact that they are willing to sell those weapons to any warlord/dictator/drug-dealer as long as they obtain some economical and/or political gain out of that. BTW is the same about the UK, France, Israel, Russia, Germany, China and so on.
Cut out with the cheap nationalism, plz.

You enjoyed the movie until you realized it was anti-american?

Do you think the movie portrays the situation realistically? And before you answer, you might want to research the Iran-Contra affair or who delivered the Sarin that Saddam used to gas the Kurds in Iraq.

And if it is portraying the situation realistically, then should you not be anti-american, too? Countries are nothing more then dirt enclosed by made up lines. It's the people who are making it something good or bad and if the people who rule are corrupt, then they deserve to exposed and removed if necessary.

If you had to make a decision, what would you prefer to be your sin, being anti-american or supporting a government that sells weapons to murderers knowing that they'll be used to kill innocent women and children?

I think humanity should be wiped out and then we can give evolution a second chance.

i think its damn good !!!

it is the first time when an american movie really dared to bring out the reality about so called "UN permanent member countries" !!!

I am an American. I love living here. I love this movie. I am also sick of my fellow Americans like the original poster that think America is perfect and never does any wrong. I dont think for a second our government only does what is "right". Just like any country they will do what best benefits themselves, not caring about the consequences.

He liked the movie until he saw anti-American points of view so he trashes it...what kind of close-minded BS is that?

The war in Iraq is so pointless and illegal, the situation at Guantonimo...all illegal. Bush and his administration should be on trial for war crimes. Yet the rednecks in this country love Bush, but want Obama killed for trying to give people health care that cant afford it. We really have our priorities right, huh?

If you look at the background information on what it's based on, you'll realise that this stuff DOES happen in real life. Maybe you should read up on the case of Viktor Bout, the Russian who Yuri is based on, and find out the truth before you go calling it crap. I just wrote an essay on the meaning of this film in relation to the world at the time, and it's seriously scary how true it is. As for the Anti-American bit, how is it? It tells the truth about American's being involved in wars and taking sides and supplying arms - which they do! You can't deny that. This film is a real eye opener more people should pay close attention to. Yes it was made for entertainment purposes, but the basis of the story is true

reply

Most of the time it is anti Europe (or anti outside America).

reply

I thought it was anti-asian because I didn't see a single asian person in the whole movie. Asians like to kill people too you know.

Lol, jokes.

Tonight I gotta cut loose, footloose

Interesting. The post was written in 2007, but the poster is still in that starry-eyed childhood innocent state most Americans had already broken out of by that year.

Firstly, the movie is indeed a load of crap. It is a Hollywood movie, which means that it is expectedly just a piece of garbage.

Secondly, America IS the "bad guy". Has always been. The funny part is that nobody ever considered America the "good guy" anywhere in the world. The world is absolutely united in perceiving America as the primary problem that needs to be "solved" in one way or another. The only place where people were stupid (or duped) enough to believe in "good guy" America was the America itself. But most of the duped ones figured out the real state of affairs somewhere at the end of the 90's. And you still act surprised in 2007? You must be one of the stupid ones. And you calling the movie "anti-American" for that? That's ridiculous. The "bad guy" nature of America is a hard fact. Facts can't be "anti-something" or "pro-something". Facts are objective. They are just facts.

Thirdly, again, besides being a stupid Hollywood movie, it still dared to do a thing that was normally not permitted and not forgiven by the US regime: at the beginning of the movie it claims that in order to get from USSR to USA one had to be a Jew or had to pretend to be a Jew. This is actually true. During the Cold War USA was actively importing Jews from USSR for propaganda purposes. These Jews were consequently paraded in front of American public as "Russians escaping communist oppression". While in reality Russian never immigrated into the USA in any noticeable numbers (even today, with professional immigration the number of Russians in USA is probably somewhere around 1000 or less), the propaganda machine of American regime desperately wanted to show those "Russians" that want to live in the "freedom" of USA. Hence the simple ruse with the Jews. For primitive Americans they were "Russian" enough to pass off as Russians. (Even today you can find some retards that call Brighton Beach in New York "russian".) Anyone who dared to raise their voice to point out that little inconsistency, was quickly taken care of by the American regime (you know, sudden heart attack, slip up in the bathroom, car accident, this kind of thing). Last case I know of was no later than 2003. And the authors of that movie dared to say what they said in 2005!!! That's a pretty brave thing to say, I have to admit. I hope they and their families are all right.

Finally, fourthly, there's an additional important detail pertaining to you, not to the movie. You see, the conditioning a typical American lemming receives from the US regime is intended to result in a "whaa... ah, whatever" reaction to irritants like that. That a normal reaction an American numbscull is supposed to have, even if they somehow decide this movie is anti-American. Your reaction, on the other hand, is significantly more radical: you even threw the disk into the garbage, you say? This is a sign of a serious negative side effects of what was done to you by the regime in this country. It is not your fault, so what I'm saying is not supposed to be insulting. But there is a very good chance you are a seriously disturbed person. I would suggest you see a professional, preferably in the Free World, i.e. outside the USA. (Assuming you a still out there, since it's been a while).

Otherwise, as I said above, the movie is a piece of typical Hollywood chewing gum intended for average American lemming.
