absolute total disgrace

I enjoyed many parts of this movie

until I realized what kind of anti american bull it is.

the bad guy always wins, evil always prevails, america is the bad guy(the president being the worst)

the wost 5 dollars I've ever spent on a movie

this one goes straight to the trash

I cant believe cage lowers himself to such ignorant 4th grade politics

garbage

two thumbs way down to this 2 hours of ridiculous crap

reply

On the contrary, I think this naive misconception of how the world works is more like the fourth grade politics you speak of. I hope that some day you can come out of your shell and realize that the world isn't always black and white. I hate to be a wet blanket, but America isn't always the good guy, evil wins a lot more than you think, and our planet isn't a happy utopian paradise where everything is perfect, because it really isn't. I also didn't think that this film took an anti-American stance specifically. It was not an America bashing film, but instead a critique on the inhearently ironic nature of war and violence which merely used the arms industry as a back drop. Maybe if you were to shed your blinders and go see it again, you'll be suprised by it's truthfulness and relevance

reply

what misconception? you critize me but dont even rebuttle my points, you just stated the the same argument again being, "America is evil"

reply

have just watched this film...a little lightweight in the political side but the crux of the film was....the main players in this planet of ours sell arms to the little players and then tut when they kill each other....as long as we make money who care eh???

I've just seen this movie recently. I'm from australia. But i'm aware whats been happening in polotics however i'm no expert. But there's one thing about this particular film.

As the film said at the end it was based on actual events. Some of these events shown could of been streached and may not be true. But hey it happens and for more there's heaps of countries with a huge under belly of gun trading and stuff. I've seen tones of aussie films that have shown stuff and alot of people wouldn't accept that but hey it happens. No country is perfect. This film shows more or less what can happen, what does happen and what has happened. And for who may have been invovled, it's probably true that it's american traders but there's also russia, africa and china.

How can we determine who the bad guy is? or how can we know who is good? As far the film goes those who sell guns aren't pulling the trigger, the ones who buy them are. So who's to know who's at fault? Now you say it's anti-american. You could also say it's anti-russian. It's not agasint america, it's not a film agasint anything. Case in point some many are aware of that many terrorists were at one point trained under U.S officals-this was of course probably in the 80's. Many of thier wepons are made in over seas countries. So what this film is saying anyone in the world could be invovled. It basis on fact.

Is america bad? well i can say that australia isn't perfect. That it's had trouble in past and even right now. Aussise on it's own probably contributes to black gun market. To me the film is speaking out to australia as well cuase same thing most probably happens over here. And i think it's good for films to give out facts on a issue that some won't touch. I mean as many have said on this topic. That america isn't perfect, well no country is so every one has a say on the film about wether or not the film was being offence to that country. So my point from just saying that was America is not alone.

At last, somebody who watches movies for entertainment and not as research into technical accuracy of the items on the screen. But for your information the weapons in the warehouse scene were a mixture of fake and real and of many different types. The reference for this was from pictures of actual piles of weapons that the U.S. confiscated during their time in Beruit. Many people do not realise that all of the weapons in a movie that fire are real (converted to fire blanks) and controlled by law, and it is not always possible to get the 100% perfect item that is needed, so some movie/artistic licence is required. It is also often the case that an actor or director would prefer something not correct in reality becouse it looks better on screen. Although this was not the case with 'Lord of War' as Andrew Nichol strived for accuracy where at all possible. I can say this with all confidence as I was the senior Armourer on the movie.

No doubt I will be bombarded with all kinds of other complaints now!

How can you even defend America?
Honestly I have one thing to tell you.

Guantanamo (Unsure bout the spelling but it's that base in Cuba where America tortures terrorists without trails)

reply

Here's a question, how many nations like the U.S., not economic and trade allies such as Canada ( which believe me does not like the U.S. )?

I'll tell you, Israel.

That's pretty much it.

Just because Blair supports Bush doesn't mean the Brits love Americans.

Even Kuwait doesn't like the U.S. all that much, after all do you realise how much they had to give to the U.S. for saving their ass after the war?

Oh yeah, UAE and Saudi Arabia, they don't like the U.S. either.

Just because America has the most economic allies doesn't mean it has the most friends, you know what country does have the most friends? Switzerland, you know why? Cause they keep everyone's money safe and keep to themselves, that's why!

It's not a lie if you believe it.

And here's a question for you, Minimus -- how many foreign countries does the US like? I can tell you -- very, very few. Americans are, by and large, good people who nevertheless don't really give a crap about how people in other countries feel about them. When Americans hear people whining about how "the USA is so evil," most of them put it down to jealousy.

The US is the only superpower in the world. Sucks for everyone else, but they had their turns in history. The US does the exact same stuff every other country in the world does, but since it is the lone superpower it gets attacked for it by everyone living in either some godforsaken sandbox of a country or a failing socialist state. And the comments here by people like you just reinforce many Americans' belief that foreigners are inherently snotty and untrustworthy.

Americans also find it ironic that so many whine about their policies, when some of the very countries who complain the most -- Russia, most of western Europe, China, etc. -- have been guilty of widespread imperialism, enslavement, profiteering, and genocide themselves. Why don't you take a hard look at your own country's history before you decide to start casting stones at the USA?

I thought Lord of War was a good, realistic movie. The world arms trade is a disgrace, but don't try to act as if Americans are the only ones profiting from it. Everyone gets their piece of the pie.

reply

Jealousy? Lmao, no thanks buddy I think id rather live in a country with free healthcare, no gun crime and high IQ's. Jealousy indeed, Id hate to live in America, and the irony is, i've probably seen far more of your country than you have.

reply

Scotland, land of high IQs? Don't think so, pal. And while Scotland has less gun crime than the US does, it also has a much higher rate of knife and street violence. Plus, I don't think we have ever had any soccer riots here.

And, by the way, I seriously doubt you've seen more of the USA than I have. I'm over 40 and have been all over the place here as well as South and Central America and Europe.

reply

Jealousy? Stop embarrassing yourself. The people of the world hate the American Empire because of its gigantic list of crimes against people in every corner of the globe. You don't care how our actions affect people abroad? You don't care how those people feel about our crimes? Fine, then 2001 wasn't the last 9/11 we're gonna have.

I'm an American and I want for us to become a neutral country like Switzerland. We need to stop acting like we're above the world, and recognize that we're just one part of a world community.

We do more military spending than every other country in the world combined. We are the world's largest arms supplier. People have LEGITIMATE grievances with us.

Lenin zhil, Lenin zhiv, Lenin budet zhit'!

reply

Hmm, maby you should see a movie where an action hero goes to Russia to blow up the new-communist-terrorist-headquarter?

I think you would like that, wouldnt you? Youre ridicilous.

There is no spoon

This movie tells the truth. If you can't handle the truth, go rent My Little Ponies. Believe whatever if you prefer to live in a fantasy world. It's not "anti-American."

reply

This film isn't anti-American.

It's anti-war.
