I Liked it!

Say what you will about DOA, but it was FUN!. The Girls are cute and fun and sexy as hell, the fighting was great, and the direction and crazy camera angles were great too.

Anyone going to this movie looking for some mental massaging won't find it. This movie is meant to be FUN! A great movie to watch with your buds on a big screen TV.

My girlfriend watched it too and she thought it was fun.

And Jaimie Prestly is ultra sexy. Yum.

I agree, it had some pretty bad acting (mainly the Ninja princess an her people) but it wasn't bad at all. It definitely LOOKED amazing. If the script and dialogue had been better it could have been pretty well respected as serious martial arts flick. Instead it's like Power Rangers with t1ts. But I like power rangers...and I like t1ts.

By no means am I saying this movie is great..but definetly one of the better video game movie adaptions. I liked it..didnit love it..but the action was pretty damn well done..and yeah hot girls. Better movie than I expected.

I'm all for people enjoying any sort of film, but this is so bad that unless you are plasterd there is no way that this can possibly be good! Seriously, It's not even good in that bad way. Besides watching chicks w/katanas do some ridicolous things that obviously know of them could do w/out some major traing. This is plain BAD

This has got to be the funniest, most ego stroking *beep* message board I've ever seen. I had no idea there were so many pussy-ass *beep* who were crying because nobody else liked this piece of *beep* movie. I'm sorry, this POS makes the original Street Fighter seem like the Godfather in comparison. It is so bad, so bad it's not even funny. I mean seriously, who wants a good story, or good action, but no, it's ok, it was FUN! Oh yeah, why the *beep* are so many people emphasizing FUN like this. We get it, you have no taste. Congratulations.

I didn't like it that much. I only liked the fightingscenes. But the acting was horrible and I am deffintly not interested in 90 minutes filled with chicks in bikinis.

Candy doesn't have to have a point. That's why it's candy

Um, yeah, this movie was terrible.

The choreography was high energy but not at all intricate or creative (the video game's fighting is some of the best I've ever seen).

The plot was forgettable and stupid.

The acting was mediocre (though Jaime Prestly did a pretty good job and fit her character well, Devon was an absolute bore).

The dialogue was cliche and horrendous.

The special effects were extremely chessy.

The environments and settings were uninspired.

Amane's character was wasted and ruined (so was Helena's).

They only had to do one thing: Create a martial arts movie with a simplistic plot borrowed off of a video game who's main draw was big-breasted beauties and awesome fast paced battles. How the hell can the director and the writers NOT be able to pull THAT off???!!! And with a budget THAT big???!!!

But despite all that... I managed to get some cheap enjoyment out of it. I mean, there really aren't enough martial art films (or games) with female dominated casts, if there were, I wouldn't even be here giving this movie the time of day. But, it is what it is and this movie is perfect for when you have time to kill and don't want to use your brain to pay attention to plot or dialogue. So yeah, I enjoyed it but by no means will I ever consider it a good movie. Because it wasn't. Plain and simple.

*so I'm just going to keep my expectations low and hopefully this movie won't totally blow*

I really love this movie:) 8/10

I gave it a 7, I enjoyed it enough to buy it and watch it twice

reply

I agree, and I liked it a lot as well.
It was entertaining pretty much from start to finish.
It did have a story-line that would fit into the vein of a Bond flick, complete with the final self-destruct explosion; it did have a lot of martial arts moves and fighting sequences we've seen before (if you have watched a lot of fight flicks like I have); but it was good, I laughed, I enjoyed, I had fun.
IMDB rated this one wrong, it is at least a 6+.

I really really liked this movie!!! When did it become a crime for a movie to be just fun! If I want an intricate plot or some kind of masterful direction I certainly wouldn't go and watch this movie! But if I want some mindless fighting combined with some babes... Then what more could you ask! This is the same reason why I like the Street Fighter movie! It's funny how some people find in forums like these the opportunity to show off how "intelligent" they are by bashing such movies... And how easily some people say to those who disagree with them that they should be killed (as one of the first posters did). Go back to your dark holes and live with your misery... losers.

I wish this film had some more bouncing juggs though... Unless they release later a "Bouncing Breasts Cut". Yeah!!!

Hungry rodents are a force to be reckoned with!!!

reply

I didn't like this movie, basically because it's saying that DOA is just a game with bouncing breasts.

DOA has a great storyline, and the movie didn't use it greatly. AT ALL

Making an adaptation of a video game is not that difficult when the story is sitting right in front of you, especially if you play the game's story mode.

The casting was a slight problem to me, too. Ayane is Japanese. I like Natassia Malthe, but seriously.

The biggest problem, however, were the film characters differing from the game counterparts. For example, Bayman. Bayman (the game version) may have worked with him at a time, but he was in no way as thoughtless as the film version.

reply

Okay, I'm not going to deny anything I'm about to write. I thought this movie was really cheesy in all fronts. The premise (Even though I have played some of the games), the acting, etc. But you know what, I still enjoyed it. I liked the movie. I don't care if a movie is bad, as long as it's still enjoyable. I swear, movie fans these days expect all movies to be arthouse films. It's tragic, man. Hot women, martial arts fighting, what more can a guy like myself want? I know there are flaws, but I still looked past them.

All I need is one mic...

reply

Why does anyone like this movie again?

reply

Yeah I liked this movie too, it works because it doesn't take itself seriously and takes the piss. it's really quite funny and sexy some of the acting is bad I actually think it just adds to the film I liked it. 6.5/10

Thank God!!! *choir of angels singing*

I hate when people talk so much BEEP about this movie... yeah, some actors are bad, yeah... we didn't get Hitomi, yeah... Devon Aoki doesn't even came close to what we had in mind for Kasumi... BUT

Kevin Nash! FUNNY! Jamie Prestly! FUNNIER! XD Who doesn't love a hot girl that is also funny?

The shot of Christie's black panties while perfectly landing on a bike? EPIC!!! (I know this sound weird coming from a chick but I thought it was awesome!)

The fighting sequences!!!! Do I need to say more?

I watch it on DVD with my guys (yes I'm that type of girl that wears skirts but hangs out with the guys... anyway) and the voleyball scene! We were laughing so hard because my brother got caught in camera drooling over Christie playing hahahaha it was totally bad if you compare it with a Michael Bay movie but this is no freaking Bay... the guy has his own style and his style is action/comedy!

I guess being me is sexy

When I read the reviews I thought it would be absolutely horrible but after watching the movie it reminded me A LOT of the Mortal Kombat movies.
Those movies were rated low but did you think my brother, cousin, and I cared? heck no! we loved the movies because we loved the games and this movie replicates that feel.

Honestly its cheesy at times but so was Mortal Kombat(and lets toss in House of the Dead as well) but regardless its fan service to a
fighting game with barely any real story to begin with.

So with all that being said it's enjoyable and fun to watch.

Excellent film. Corey Yuen is a master choreographer and director.
The pacing, cinematography and loyalty to the source material was perfect. Movies like this need not have deeper plot and characterization or extended dialogues incase it hurts the pace of the movie.

reply

In my epic quest to watch all *beep* video game adaptations I found this one quite entertaining. After watching DB Evolution, The Last Airbender and DOA back-to-back I'm surprised to say DOA is the better flick.

Dear god. I feel like I was comatose the entire runtime of the movie. I just couldn't stop watching. I didn't expect anything at all from this movie, but man, I definitely wasn't prepared to be hypnotized by such magnificent nonsense. They bombarded me with slow-mo fight scenes, women that were supposed to be attractive, silly henchmen and Eric Roberts still in his prime (it feels like it was just yesterday I rented 'Best of the Best 2' on a VHS 'ette) incompetent ninjas, dysfunctional laws of physics. Enough!
And I'm ashamed to admit it but... there were a few moments where I... where I had fun.
There! You got the best of me movie, but you still suck so vehemently.
Begone from my memory.

reply

The only thing that remotely impressed me at all in this film was Tina, Bass, and Zack... Everyone else sucked.

I'm a major DoA fan and this movie was insulting >_>

reply

This movie is definitely one of my biggest guilty pleasures.

I have never played any of the DOA games so for all I know this adaptation might be a heresy of Biblical proportions, but I enjoyed the heck out of it. It was short, fun, featured scores of "hawt gurrlz"(let's face it; that was what the filmmakers wanted to attract viewers with) and Eric Roberts playing a bad guy with sunglasses that gives him superpowers! Can't get any better than that, eh?

reply

I'm going to give this movie some credit. I started watching it not thinking I was going to watch the whole thing, but ended up watching the entire movie. Entertaining characters and some fight scenes were well done, while others bordered on straight cheese. Mainly when you could tell they used entirely too much wire. but overall it wasn't too bad!
