I don't get the hate

Simple as that...I remember seeing this movie in a cinema with 0 expectations and I was blown away by the camera work and special effects.

The plot is forgetable but let's face it, the majority blockbuster movies are lacking in that aspect. The action however kept going and jets are so rare in movies, it's a shame Stealth didn't get a sequel.

You were blown away. Most weren't. I certainly wasn't, I thought the movie stank. In retrospect the IMDB 3 I gave it might have been too generous.

As for a sequel, movies that cost over $100 million to make and only generate a third of that amount in domestic box office don't get sequels.

reply

I watched this on dvd for the first time, and I thought it was pretty kick-ass. The special effects and lots of explosions were awesome indeed, but for some reason, I do get why most people wouldn't like it.

Still better than any B-action movie. The budget and it's quality saves this thing.

reply

I'd respect a B action film more because the kind of people who make B films don't take themselves seriously.

reply

I completely agree. I had fun watching this and it's a shame reviewers drove this to be such a huge box office failure. People who give this 1 or 2 stars are just being ridiculous. I'm not saying its amazing but it doesn't deserve the abusive it gets.

ok, so it has some flaws. 1 out of 10? it is totally watchable and offers lots of unexpected new things to watch. whoever rates it that low doesn't deserve to rate movies. there is not a single flaw that is big enough to detract from the action and excellent writing. I have it 8/10 and I won't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who just wants a nice solid action movie.

Anthing with planes is good... except for this!

reply

Its a poor and dull film.

Its that man again!!

reply

Technically the film looks good as you'd expect a $130 million film to look. The scenes on the aircraft carrier were very realistic.

Jessica Biel looks good too, though I wasn't over convinced with her navy pilot.

But seriously the story...pilots chasing a talking plane for half the movie...and arguing with it no less.

You've just got to laugh.

Personally I didn't mind it either, but I can understand why it tanked...badly.

reply

You don't get the hate, because you are just one more of the brain dead swarm that think what makes a great film is just bigger explosions and sexy girls.
The fact that you acknowledge the plot sucks yet dismiss that as irrelevant, is proof that you're clueless about good films.

The majority of blockbuster action films are like that you say? Well... Yes. Yes they are. But that is because the film industry is catering to what makes money, not quality. And so long as the majority of the audience is becoming more brain dead with each passing year and continuing to flock to mind numbing bullsh!t... Crap Action films will continue to be made by the likes of Moron directors like Michael Bay, Roland Emmerich, and the like.

Take CGI for instance.
Sure, these Jets in the film LOOK great. High quality CGI for sure.
But the fact that it isn't real, means the director can have them maneuver however he wants based on what looks cool to him. Irregardless of anything like REAL PHYSICS and Aerodynamics. What you are left with as a very realistic looking Wile E. Coyote vs Roadrunner cartoon.

And refueling blimps?!?!
Seriously.. WTF!?!?!
Someone needs to smack the idiot that thought that up, up back his head.

The movie just plain suck a$$. Period.
The reason you don't get it is because you are not intelligent enough to understand why it sucks and are mesmerized by the supposed eye candy.
You think eye candy alone makes a great film.

Every time there's a big explosion of flashy effect on screen, I can just picture you and everyone like you going OOOHHHHHHH and AAAAHHHHH like those little green squeeze toy aliens from the crane game on Toy Story....

I'm curious, does it feel good to insult people just asking a simple question? Especially one that is over 2 years old?

reply

CGSailor, you made some valid points, but what's with the hostility and all those insults? Sounds like you really need to get laid very soon. I agree that the majority love all the whistles and bells of lame Hollywood films, but not all of the fans are morons. I've met some fairly intelligent people who love huge explosive films just because they entertained them.

These pc-obsessed times are getting old.

reply

but what's with the hostility and all those insults?

Frustration.
And no... Not sexual frustration as you idiotically suggested.

Frustration at the whole damned world going to hell in a handbasket.
Stupidity is rampant everywhere.

Political Science majors cannot name a single sitting Senator!

People are completely IGNORANT of things that are a) common sense and b) common knowledge.

What passes for common sense today is wishful thinking and conspiracy bullsh!t.
What passes for common knowledge is urban myth.

In film...
What's "good" is bullsh!t fluff and show.
What's "bad" is anything needing an attention span longer than a gnat's and more than two braincells to follow the plot.

An Officer stops an individual walking in the middle of the street not knowing the guy had just committed a robbery. The Officer is assaulted and beat about the face so bad his eyesocket bones are crushed. Officer returns fire killing the suspect. Dead suspect happens to be black and the Officer white, though that has NOTHING to do with the incident. And we got Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson crawling out of the wood work throwing gasoline on the fires of racism. We Got The President himself and the Black Attorney General of the United States demanding answers and starting their own investigation (None of the Feds Fraking business, it is a state matter!)

We get hordes of Black youths targeting and killign white folk and what do we get?

Not a peep outta the above mentioned race baiters.

I am sick of the ignorance the stupidity and the bullsh!t that passes for "normal" in today's world.

Well somebody is bitter. Maybe the robken0174 was right. You do need to get laid. The world is not going to hell. Because people like Cheesy Action Movies about Airplanes.

reply

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the conspiracy of the military industrial complex trying to keep Tin Man's malfunction a secret and the willingness to kill off any witnesses, even a top naval aviator, to do it. Other than that, while not especially deep, the movie was a fine action flick, IMHO.
