Boring, unfunny and very overrated

The movie just doesn't take you anywhere at all. Paris is a city with so many amazing sights, pity the movie is stuck in a tight kitchen the whole time. It gives off the impression it needs major fleshing out, like it's an animation prototype or something. There's just nothing to it. The only character that caught my eye was the food critic, the rest are too realistic. I can't think of a single time I was close to laughing. A pleasant movie to watch, but after seeing what Pixar can do, I was disappointed. It just seems like a film can do well simply because it's made by someone who's produced masterpieces, not because of its actual experience.

So beleivablity and realism is something you dislike? The film's strongest point is how beleivable the characters are!

So your entire idea behind movies is where you go in them. Did you want Remy to go to Madrid too? The reason the movie is stuck in a tight kitchen the whole time, is because that's where the bulk of the story takes place. That is what matters. Them being in Paris, doesn't justify needless scenes to show different Paris wonders. Sticking in the kitchen through the majority of the film, doesn't mean the film needs flushing out. It means the bulk of the movie takes place there.

There's plenty to it. It is a story about rat who wants to do what is considered impossible. By befriending what he was told was dangerous, all his life, he is able to do so.

I laughed plenty of times in this film, and it wasn't the jokes that is why this film is so great. Its the villain of the film, which is the best villain Pixar has ever had.

The film did well, because of the experience it gave the audiences, and the type of experience the audience feels, is determined by who makes the film, and what you have Brad Bird in the director's (and writer's) seat, chances are you have a great experience....

I think you are depending too much on the fact that this is a pixar animation. Your expectations of it appear to differ from your tastes but i still think that this is still a wonderful film! I never expected myself to like it but its heartwarming, i don't think it was meant to be a comedy - not all animations are meant to be funny. I did experience something, i think peoples idea of movement is different. Paris is the setup but its not mean to be the main focus. Of course the movies in a kitchen as the focus is on food, sure they COULD of empathised paris but i felt that there was no need.

I agree with the OP.

Boring and unfunny? Seems like you and I saw different movies. I laughed all the way to the end! I saw a very beautiful film with super animation that at times I could not believe it was animated, it seemed so real to me.

Although I gave this movie an 8/10, I don't think it is overrated. My ratings have nothing to do with IMDb, I judge from my heart. I don't think Ratatouille is as good as the two Toy Story movies, but the animation is spellbinding, the voice acting is top notch, the story is great if a tad slow at the beginning, the music is lovely and the characters especially Remy are endearing. Plus there is a great message.

I loved this movie but.......it might just be because I love rats. XD I loved the perspective from a rat's eyeview. It was very creative. The rats were so cute. As the previous owner of many pet rats, I can vouch that Remy looked (aside from his silly nose) and acted like a REAL rat. You can tell Pixar's animators studied real rats a great deal to make Remy's behavior so very rat-like. I was impressed with this. Just watching Remy's "rattiness", I even began to miss my own rats who died of old age. ;_;

I'll admit that if the movie was about a COCKROACH trying to be a chef.....I do not think I would like it as much. x_X

I find this movie to be better and smarter than a couple other Pixar movies. It doesn't HAVE to be funny to be a good movie. Cars and The Incredibles bored me to death. The Incredibles had a good beginning but it just dragged and dragged. I FELL ASLEEP DURING CARS.

I do not fall asleep during good movies. Ever. lol

Yes, because what do rats go to Paris for? The Eiffel Tower and the Seine, of course. Perhaps the Louvre? The Arc d Triomph. Napoleon's Tomb...

And what a tragedy for things to be realistic. I'm guessing they're like the talking rats you have back home?
