Obviously, if you have seen The Shining, the similiarities between the two movies are apparent. So which one do you prefer? I have to say, that while The Shining itself is not a bad movie, it was maybe a little poorly executed at some places, in other words, maybe a little cliché. When the twist in Hide and Seek was presented, I felt a little the same, but I think I prefer The Shining.
So what do you prefer?

I couldn't imagine anyone saying anything other than "The Shining" here. And I think "The Shining" was perfectly executed and far from a cliche when I saw it in the theater in 1980. The fact that it's been copied so many times attests to its power.
The Shining = Superb
Hide and Seek = meh.

The Shining is so overrated. Especially since they left a ton of stuff out of the book so the movie makes little sense.

But I'll throw in that Hide And Seek is pretty clearly meant as a tribute to The Shining, and not just with the psycho dad chasing his kid around the house or the manuscript bearing witness to his insanity. Even things like the swanky party, the foreboding elevators, etc.
