leatelamon, I hope you are joking, right? The Shining hands down! How can you compare an original masterpiece with a cliché by-the-book collage???
The Shining is not cliché. As other poster said some things have become cliché when other movies started copying them. The Shining has subtle messages you still can discover 30 years after, and it is a movie that plays with your inner fears of solitude, isolation, the unknown, etc. While Hide and Seek put together all the old tricks used a hundred times before in other movies: childish voice melody, big house in the middle of nowhere, creepy kid drawing creepy things, strange things in the basement, cracking doors, bloody written walls, cats jumping off the closet, sheriff walking around with a flashlight, music box, destroyed dolls, clock waking you up at the same time every night, etc, etc... and the worst: the overused twist taken from Psycho, The Sixth Sense, Fightclub, Memento, Identity, Secret Window and a ton more. Sorry but the only redeeming feature in Hide and Seek was Dakota, and she was the only reason for me to watch this. I like the movie as it is, it is entertaining but no comparison with The Shining, please.
