It seems like every other film that Dakota does, there is some kind of public outcry about her young age at the time and why she did this or that, in regard to certain scenes and/or content...most recently I have heard this was in regard to some of her scenes in the movie 'The Runaways'.
I think Dakota is a fantastic little actress and seems so far to be faring well, maybe because of and/or in spite of the movies she has been in.
There was quite an outcry way back when regarding Linda Blair and some of the movies she acted in at a tender age (e.g., 'The Exorcist', 'Born Innocent', etc.) She seems to have made out okay. More recently, besides Dakota, I have heard similar types of outcry regarding some of Ellen Page's work.
Because Dakota is a bit over 17 years old now, I guess we have about one more year for this kind of criticism to continue (and, depending on what roles she may get this year), and then hopefully it will die down.
I have listened to interviews of her and commentaries by her, and she doesn't sound crazy or abnormal in what I have heard thus far. And, even if she were to 'act out' a bit in the next few years, I don't know if we could accurately determine how much of that could be blamed on roles she has played or rather on 'typical' teenage acting out.
One thing, though: She seems to bring about a feeling of 'protectiveness' in some viewers. And, the press jumping on it as they have, stirring controversy and all, may actually have helped her career as opposed to hindering it.
Other reported trivia about Dakota: She was a very precocious little girl (both in acting and as demonstrated by her reported ability to read by the age of 2; she also plays the violin and piano, and does ballet); she is a product of family homeschooling; she loves to knit and is a member of the Red Cross and Girl Scouts.
