Did you feel sorry for Andy?

When Andy illegibly tries to rape her again in the janitors closet did you feel bad when she basically blinded him? I know what he did was terrible and he was abusing her but she could deff damage him forever...i felt bad even though what he did was HORRIBLEEEEE

what do you think?

To the OP
You have never been raped or in such a situation, if you had, you could never say that you feel bad for the rapist. What he took from her can never be given back. I think a little pain is the LEAST he could do.

and he wasnt trying to rape her, he was trying to get her to deny it had happened.

I have read the book, actually before I saw the movie, and he is not a nice guy. he deserved so much worse.

The thing about this is that she did whatever she could, whatever was within reach. The terror that comes when you are raped makes you lose whatever pity you may have for someone, I know. She wouldn't have been thinking oh man maybe I shouldn't use this, it might cause permanent damage, the thoughts are get away get away get away. She wouldn't have felt bad about it and neither should anyone else. And yes that may sound harsh, but it isn't extremely harsh.

To answer the question as bluntly as I can: No, I didn't feel sorry for Andy... he deserved what he got.

I personally find it impressive that Melinda did what she did to fend him off.

reply

Personally, I wanted to kill him.
Yeah, I know that sounds bad, but I wanted him to die.

Any man that does that doesn't deserve to live.

I didn't feel bad for him. He deserved it. However, I don't like how they tried to make you like Andy. They even have him defend and try to be nice to Melinda. It's not like that in the book. Anyway, Andy's a monster and deserved what he got.

I'm not sure if he necessarily deserved to be blinded (even though I think it was temporary blindness). He deserved to be punished in jail for his actions.

How long till this goes away?

reply

HOW THE HELL DO YOU FEEL SORRY FOR ANDY?!
No pain in the world will ever add up to what he did to her

been, and it's never going to be.

I haven't read the book, so I was hoping someone might answer a question.

At the party, she called the police, right?

But why?

It wasn't to report what Andy did to her, since he was never even questioned about it. The reason people called her a squealer was because she called the police and got a lot of people in trouble.

Why did she call?

reply

It was half that and half to get out of there. She wanted to call the cops but freaked out and then everyone was running and stuff so it just became what it was.

It also seemed, to me atleast, that she called because she was completely freaked out and scared, in addition to the reasons you mentioned. In the book (I think) she described it as a "next thing I knew I was at the phone and it was ringing" (not a direct quote at all) thing.

reply

Yeah, I think that her calling was more of a reaction than a conscious decision.
Like, she couldn't even speak when they picked up on the other end.

A lot of times, with rape victims, aren't they just in shock, possibly working off adrenaline? I'd be willing to bet that she wasn't totally coherent at that time...

reply

yeah she was just like OMG what should i do? ill call the cops, then she relized wait no nvm...

She called the police because she needed help. She was fourteen but still a child. That's what children have been taught to do when you need help. But then after the police got there, she couldn't tell them or her friends what happened. As it turned out, she didn't have such good friends after all.
But the big question for me is how did anywone find out that she was the one who called. Why didn't her friends figure it out just from her appearance?

reply

well that's the chance a rapist takes, his victims might just fight back. hopefully the intended victim is able to do the most amount of damage to him as possible. bet if someone held you down, beat and raped you, you'd feel differently towards rapists.

my cat will rule the world!

reply

"she could deff damage him forever"
Wow thats such a smart comment, not.
He damaged her forever maybe she wanted to return the favor.
I'd rather be blind then be a victim of rape, but that's just me.

reply

do you mean allegedly? because illegibly is like...handwriting that's messy and you can't read it...sorry, i was just wondering.

i don't feel bad for andy. it's not like she blinded him on purpose. if he hadn't made the choice to attack her it wouldn't have happened to him. that's his comeuppance.

reply

okay

and yes i meant allegdly. well i guess she just grabbed whatever she could, like she didnt mean to, but it still look like it hurt ALOT
