Is it a mistake to cast a fake deaf woman?

That just seems waaay too risky.
All it would take it one slip up to ruin the whole thing. They've shown some clips of her breaking character and he even asked her if she heard him.

She's funny and is a good actor, but I think for the sake of the show, they may need to get rid of her soon.

Actually,

years ago i worked at a day care for deaf children and hearing children with deaf parents. This one kid I always seemed to hear talking - I dunno i was the only one who heard him talking ever. But he was one of the deaf kids.

Sometimes deaf people might come across as hearing.

They might see that you are talking and turn towards you so it seems like they heard you.
