why did he pose as kubrick

if he looked nothing like him, and didnt know much about him why bother posing as him. when i first heard about it, i thought he did it cuz was obsessed with him, but i guess he wasnt if he knew nothing about him

There was a documentary on Channel 4 in the UK about 4 years ago, as I remember it was called The Man Who Would be Kubrick.

It had interviews with the guy and it turns out he was just a lonely conman, he used Kubrick's name to blag money and free stuff.

He died about a month after Kubrick.

haha, I don't think it's commitment, I just think if people know Kubrick is dead, who can he blag money from? Colour me Lucas? Colour me Spielberg? Nah.

He should have known, if you're going to impersonate someone, pick someone who doesn't have a contract out on their life.

Although I know nothing of the incident, I would imagine he tried because Kubrick was somewhat of a recluse. Doubt many people outside of his family and inner circle knew what he looked like.

What I heard was that he was insane, that he himself on occasions would actually be convinced that he was Kubrick, and lived himself more and more into the role.

It's sad though that he didn't get to live long enough for a studio to give him a big budget so he could make a great Kubrick-style movie.

because Stanley Kubrick himself was a bit reclusive, there were not many publicity photos of him so not many people actually knew what he looked like but obviously knew who he was.

its obvious from the movie - when the NYT journalists (rich and his wife) tried to find any pictures of kubrick, she said that there's no any pictures of him, only the one dated 1971.
very few people (except of cast etc) saw kubrick irl

I don't think this is true, that "there are no pictures of him." Most of the books I've seen about Kubrick or his movies have plenty of pictures of him directing, etc. If you Google Kubrick images, you'll see that there are lots of pictures from all times in his life, so while he was reclusive, I don't think he avoided being photographed.

Frank Rich reported his "Kubrick meeting" in a piece for the New York Times. The imposter had approached him and his dining companions in a restaurant. According to Rich, they were taken in fairly easily, probably because they were flattered that someone as reclusive as Kubrick would choose them to approach. Probably others were also flattered. As for appearance, they asked about his beard, and he simply stated he had shaved it off.

+ he died 3 months before kubrick acording to the film, funny

and yes he picked him because he knew people did not know what he looked like
