Underrated performance by Tom Cruise
I think this is some of his best work as an actor.
shareThis movie was incredible along with Jason Statham's crossover from the TRANSPORTER movie in the beginning at the Airport exchange
shareAgree (seven years later). Foxx received all of the recognition from the awards circuit, but Cruise was also superb, but pretty much ignored by the Hollywood elite, as per usual, despite being the most bankable actor in the history of cinema.
shareHe was great, the one time in his career he played an out & out baddie.
However, his outstanding performance wasn't enough to carry the film. Jamie Foxx is a lousy actor, I never understood his appeal, and his character is even more important than Cruise's. So if his character doesn't work, neither does the film. The guy shows zero emotion, and he fittingly doesn't get many movies anymore while Cruise is ten times more popular today than he was in Collateral.
Another lousy actor ruining the film is Mark Ruffalo, playing a Serpico wannabe and stinking out every scene in the film as he always does. Will Smith's wife was also awful as well.
Cruise needed some help. He was surrounded by a bum cast.
