My favorite part
At the funeral, when the "Free bird" catches on fire, descends over the crowd, and the drummer yells, "Keep Playing."

shareWhen Drew is driving home from Elizabethtown and how he starts talking to his dad strapped in the passenger seat next to him...its just a beautiful movie. One of my favorite movies of all time.
sharefave bit is when Drew is talking to his dad's ashes on the ways home and he's laughing and crying - makes me tear up a bit!

I love during the Free Bird scene when Claire is helping to evacuate and she's doing her hand movements like she would if she were on a plane. I have flight attendant friends, and that scene cracks me up.
I also love Claire's "camera".
There are so many amazing scenes in this movie. Overall, maybe not a great movie, but the scenes make up for it, in my opinion. I love the road trip, the sunrise, Chuck and Cindy, Paula Deen, the phone call.
And the music....if there is one thing that Cameron Crowe is good at, it's music. :)
When Orlando's character first pulls up to the home in Elizabethtown. When he gets out of the car you can hear the cicadas in the background. The film makers did a great job capturing that sound. Sounds just like Kentucky at dusk. Good stuff!
shareMy fav scene is the look Kristen Dunst has on her face as she carried Bloom's suit away on the plane and realises the Mitch had passed. No words necessary, no special effects needed, no need for dialog, just a look and a facial expression said everything that needed to be said.
shareWhen Drew first gets out of the car in Elizabethtown, we are to believe that he hadn't yet been outside of the car since he'd been at the airport. There's no music, but he sees his cousin Jesse standing there and as he gets out of the car, the rush of sound that we hear is amazing. Here he is, living in California and traveling to Kentucky which to him may as well be Mars, and we hear at the same time he does, all the different and new sounds of the cacophony of insects that would be totally new to his west coast ears.
The part at Mitch's memorial when Holly is dancing and Drew's sister is shown just sobbing and applauding her mother. So beautiful.
Also, when Free Bird is playing and the emergency sprinklers come on, we see Drew's sister standing with her eyes closed and a smile on her face, getting soaked and not caring at all cause she's just happy.
My two favorite scenes are the all-night phone conversation and when Claire steps out of the lift in yesterday's clothes.
I had to make a list, as there are too many great, wonderful moments in this movie to pick just one. Elizabethtown is one of my favorite movies and here is my list of my favorite moments:
- Phil’s line “We could have saved the planet. But…” Makes me laugh how the fate of the world has been placed on Drew’s shoulders. Lol
- The disarming and comforting way Claire tells Drew as she takes the blue suit “I can handle this. Let…go.”
- “GOOD MORNING!” Just blindsided me the first time I saw the movie.
- The sound Charles Dean makes after Drew tells him they are considering cremation.
- The story about Dickey Conley. Three nipples, OMG!
- …hotter than the hinges of hell. You got stars though.”
- Of course the all-night phone call, but I absolutely love that Claire was working on the map for him during that phone call. I didn’t even catch it the first couple of times I saw the movie.
- When Drew meets Chuck. Makes me laugh so hard every time.
- “Mother! Listen! Focus!”
- The look on Drew’s face as he turns around after Claire pops the balloon in the hotel lobby.
- When Drew collapses from exhaustion, Claire just looks at him for a minute, and then pulls him along, keeps him going.
- The sound and the sight of the house exploding in the video.
- The push-pull flirtation between Drew and Claire at the hotel.
- The conversation between Drew and Claire the morning after they spend the night together, specifically Claire’s emotional reactions and what she says. She starts off incredibly happy, then shows anticipation for what she thinks in going to be a confession of love, then she’s angry, then she’s shocked and confused, then she’s simultaneously relieved and saddened. But she also shows great resolve in saying what she says to Drew. This is where Drew’s personal journey truly begins in my opinion, when she says “You think I care about that?” The line is stark and jarring in a loving and comforting way. She realizes Drew must grow as a person, and she redefines greatness for him, and shows him that she is only a substitute for what is important to him at this point. She then walks away, knowing that is what she has to do (and willingly does it), but you can still hear the heartbreak in her voice as she leaves. It’s a powerful scene that is bittersweet and heartbreaking.
- And then when she comes to the memorial service and gives Drew the map. I like the subtle hint dropped with “I have this thing for you.” It wasn’t “I have something for you.” It hints at something more than a simple object. And her reaction when Drew asks if Ben exists. My thought is that she was completely overjoyed at this question, because she realizes Drew finally saw through the ruse.
- Charles Dean bumping into the casket and then it crashing into the hole. I laughed until I cried at that the first time.
- The road trip was amazing. So many moments that are so true to life during that trip.
- “Some music needs air.” 100% true.
- “My Father’s Gun” by Elton John
- “River Road” and “60B” by Nancy Wilson
- And Drew and Claire’s reunion at the end. The perfect end to a great story.
I really enjoy this movie because there are so many moments that are true to life that are depicted in the movie. This movie is just a great experience in my opinion.
So many little moments that make this movie great.
Just from the road trip alone I can think of many:
- when he start talking with his dead father
- tell his father it's not his fault he try to kill himself
- spreads his father's ashes from the car
- when he dance alone in the wood
- "some music needs air"
but my favorite moment from this part is when he imagines himself playing with his father again while he crying.
