Okie... Ummm... I've always seen Daft Punk as "Dance Crap", and that is what they are. Because they're CRAPPY at making PURE Dance music... what they ARE is one of the best experimental fusion music artists of the 20th century. Listening to their music, especially Discovery, you see that their music isn't strictly dance music OR electronica of ANY type. One More Time, Digital Love, and a few others are actually composed from other mainstream genres like R&B, Classical, Rock, and Pop music, and then fed through some simple mixing techniques and compressions. This is not much different than the sampling that was done in the late 80's and early 90's with early hip-hop artists like Run DMC, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, and Tone Loc. Even extending to the point of Eminem sampling Dido and Aerosmith for HIS work. They're riding the heels of other artists and not changing much beyond their own voice.
When someone says to YOU "Daft Punk is just Dance Crap", you can easily come back with "They're better artists than the crap that you listen to. At least they've got the creativity to create their own original works, rather than to endlessly sample and copy the work of those that came before them."
I've seen this movie, and it's quite a lot of fun to watch. It's rare you get a lame plot for a movie that is so interesting to watch in terms of Daft Punk's take on it.
