Complete rubbish.

I can't stand it. Just started watching "One More Time" on YouTube and couldn't watch for over 1 minute. Everything looks so silly and ugly, I don't understand how anyone can like it. Despite the fact that I'm a fan of Daft Punk music. Whatever did you see that I didn't?

reply

It's because One more time is completely rubbish. But when you watch the movie completely, you will see that even this part/song does its part very well. And the whole film is just overwhelming by phenomenal animation and superb music that fit perferctly to the seen actions.

Just try to watch the whole movie, if you like Daft Punk and a little animation, you will love it.

Thanks for understanding instead of saying "piss off" :) but I won't try because I don't want to torture myself. Thanks again :)

its a waste of time to try and help him see his error.

He obviously has no potential to like it, hes just complaining because he doesnt (which he is entitled to do) but its a waste of time to try and get him to see otherwise.

he comes across to me as someone who likes anime (modern only) and young. Young kids only see dated colours/animation when something was created when they were a toddler/before they were born so it doesnt hold much weight to them.

I felt the same way growing up regarding anything in black and white, or old-style cartoons like he-man. No matter how good people would say they were, i would be unable to see past the dated production values. i was like that until my preteen years or even a lil longer. So i would assume the OP is just too young to truly enjoy this movie. Especially if he was too young to remember when these songs were popular.

It also matters if you like good music and can appreciate the quality of the movie and how it ties into the musics feel so well.

why are you replying to me?

"One more time" does indeed look a little stiff and unfinished, because it was the first single and they did not have time for polishing it up.
But I'd still say it is far from ugly.

I actually found One More Time the greatest of Daft Punk.

Don't forget to vote on this week's question! http://www.critique-info.webs.com

I think it looks quite retro which is the point

reply

It looks retro because they were paying homage to the styles of music they admired and I guess in part to some animation they admired too

I'm pretty sure it's *meant* to have a bit of that 70s/80s old-school low-budget sweatshop-animated get-it-on-VHS kinda feel. That's where a large chunk of the appeal comes from.

I guess it doesn't work for everyone. Worked for me, though. People have different tastes, can't we all just get along, etc. etc.

One more time is the only daft punk song I hate. It's to lyricy and sounds like a remix of a bad 90's song.

Are you a dumbass?

reply

That's the exact feeling I get when hearing "One More Time". But in this I think it works, and they get it out of the way fast.

So... do you like... stuff?

reply

like the song, (and DaftPunk) LOVE THE VIDEO!!!

I grew up with TOEI animation and am a big anime fan, thie video is pure "old-school" anime from the guys that brought you "StarBlazers"/"Space Cruiser Yamato"

Musically, the song also has a retro disco/dance feel to it, so I'm happy with it.

The animation is meant to be familiar in look, character design etc. if you don't like it, it's probably cuz you are not a fan of old anime.

I liked DaftPunk being nominated for an award in the movie =)

Everytime something like that happens,an evil wizard did it!-Xena on "the Simpsons"

I love the music, and I REALLY love the video. The entire movie was done really well, and the animation is superb. The detail is also amazing.

Really, the only song I don't like out of Discovery/Interstella 5555, is High Life. But, it's just the song I don't like. Give me One More Time over High life anyday of the week.

You probably need to have been around in the 80s to fondly remember that kind of visual and musical style.

reply

Not necessarily. I haven't even been born in the 80s but I think that 80s anime is the best kind. There's that… I can't really put it into words but it just feels right.

reply

No this thread is complete rubbish, this movie kicks ass.

'One more time' "complete rubbish"?

It's regarded worldwide as a classic by most daft punk fans and the whole club scene in general. It'll be played many years from now and still sound just as good as it did when it first came out.

So what are your favourite daft punk songs then?

reply

I have to agree. This movie is awesome and the songs in it have a timeless feel, I even downloaded the coplete album because I wanted to hear the music when I worked out, it is a wonderful achievement that pays homage to the animation and the music of yesteryear with a great story to boot. How can you beat that? Anyway, I will look out for more Daft Punk because they've got a new fan here!

reply

watch the movie on youtube.com, you never know, maybe you'll change your mind. ; )

I saw the first ten minutes of this as the latter half of a double bill with Tron Legacy. I was only there for Tron, I knew literally nothing about this film. I walked out after ten minutes. I'm sure it's great if you're a Daft Punk fan, but I'm not. It looked interesting, but I don't think i could have sat through 70 minutes of it.

Exactly. Boo.
