Had it not been for the 3rd act...

this whole movie would've been one of the best M. Night Shyamalan films since The Sixth Sense.

You think the twist ruined it or just knocked it down a peg or two for you?

It’s been a while, but I remember the movie being fine, maybe a bit overly criticized. The twist didn’t bother me too much. I would rank this as one of Shamalan’s stronger films. Not Sixth Sense, Signs, or Unbreakable level, but good enough to recommend as something to watch.

What about the first 2/3 did you really like, and what about the last 1/3 knocked you out of it?

What I liked about the first 2/3 is that it had an eerie atmosphere, the countryside concept was very interesting and could have made for a very good supernatural horror flick (not to mention the drama was quite interesting), and it was well acted from everyone.

The last 1/3 taking place in the modern world pretty much did both. The whole movie is very good. Don't get me wrong. It's just that the twist could have had some reasoning behind it.

True, had there been real monsters and the stupid modern day twist didn't happen it would have been a fun horror film. A good twist would have been to not explain the monsters at all.

This.

Disagree, this is my favorite M Night movie. Thought it was okay movie and the end made it way better. Similar to The Usual Suspects.
