I would have written that there was an underground base... probably the same place he was later interviewed in the following scene.
I would have included a scene that has Indy going into a cave and meeting a man who has been there for 700 years
shareI actually like the final shot of that scene with Indy standing up and looking at the mushroom cloud. But how he gets to that point is ludicrous so it's difficult to know how he reaches that point while still maintaining some sort of reasonable logic. Maybe if he takes an unused car from the nuke town anticipating what will happen with enough time, and while getting away a chase ensues between himself and the Russians. When the bomb gets dropped, they just about get wiped out, he just about survives. Not perfect but better than getting in the fridge.
