shareIt's not weird. It just showed one familys reactions to an emotionally difficult divorce. We can see that it was tough on all of them but the parents don't act as very good role models for their children. We see a very selfish egomaniac father who uses his children to feel better about himself instead of being affectionate with them. So the eldest craves his attention and steals the pink floyd song to win the talent contest. The father's obsession with intellectualism is mirrored in his son who puts down his girlfriends choice of books. The mother's serial affairs and ease at which she talks about them to her children are are processed and expressed by the youngest through public masturbation. He sees his father as an unhappy loser and wants to be the exact oppossite of him. It's not weird - it's just probably not how you (or I) would react.
paschal-jd and squarepanths are right. The movie is not weird at all. It beautifully catches the ugliness and squalor or people whose lives look enviable on the surface (published authors, university professors, lovely house). These people really exist. The saddest part was Frank; his accelerating separation from "normal" life rings true. If they don't get help, both these kids are going to grow into truly disturbed adults.
sharehaha this is the most normal film i own.
try something by this guy

I second (third) the David Lynch suggestions if you think this is weird. Or take a total spiritual *beep* with "The Holy Mountain" if you think THIS is THE "weirdest" film.
Honestly, though, for all it's strange and beautiful themes - this movie is the closest thing to the trials and tribulations of divorce that I've ever seen. If it seems weird- imagine growing up in it! I did and perhaps that's why I don't see this as "weird" so much as absolutely heartbreaking and very realistic.
FREE TIBET!
Wierd is relative. I found nothing remotely "wierd" about this film, other then how most films avoid such reality.
shareYea I'd probably say that *beep* too if I couldn't *beep* spell.
shareI can't recall anything weird about this movie.
If you want weird, watch the first half of Lost Highway, Eraserhead, and any Alejandro Jodorowsky movie.
This can never be the weirdest movie ever, far from it they are many hollywood movies I see and at the end am just sitting there thinking WTF, sometimes about wtf the movie was about.
shareAll of these get way weirder
