I can't help but to love this movie, even though it's not really great

I mean, I don't know what it is. It's such a guilty pleasure movie. I can watch it over and over, and still enjoy it just as much. The exorcism scene in the beginning with the mirror is especially fantastic to me. Incredibly enjoyable flick!

I totally agree! I think this film is rather under-rated.

I didn't care for this much in the theather, but they keep running it on AMC, and I always find myself watching it.

I think the action and FX scenes are very imaginative and cool. The scene in hell is flat out amazing. Great take on what hell would look like.

The only thing that makes this less than a great movie is the script. The lines are so...what's the word...I don't know. Dull? All the dialogue is so straight forward, and spell out what the story should be spelling out. I don't like being force fed all the details to the story.

Fun movie though.

Movie is very underrated and under-appreciated because of its theme, director etc. Nowadays if you want to make a good movie you have to trick the audience into thinking its a work of art and advertise the heck out of it. Its basically the formula that Tarantino follows.

Yeah I remember not caring for it very much the first time I saw it but I keep coming back. The thing I really like is the somber tone and dark L.A. atmosphere. You see the not-so-glamorous side of L.A./Hollywood, which is MOST of L.A./Hollywood, but it's shot with a lot of style and looks cool.

I like the cast also. Especially Djimon Hounosu who was very cool as Midnight.

Back off! ... Way off!

Yeah I don't get the hate for this movie, it's one of my favorite movies of all. I also like the scene where Constantine draws out Gabriel by pulling his arms together "Into the light I command thee". There are many really awesome and cool shots in the movie. Or Gabriel itself, collecting the hospital name tags of babies who died on his wrist.

Yes it is way overrated and I have watched it many times I don't even like horror movies or supernatural stuff but I love this movie...very entertaining and superb effects and just a fun ride.

reply

Yes, it's very watchable and stands the test of time.

I like what's going on in the movie and I've watched it a few times over the years. It's quite fun to watch but it's far from a "great" movie by any means.

It is my favorite movie. I love it in all unknown details, from the search of the Gabriel's wings to the worm man that attacked Constantine in the street ( the worm demon was made after Keanu Reeves' movements and not otherwise). I love the last lines, like the whole movie wanted to prove the fact Constantine did not believe anymore: "God really works in mysterious ways". I love Lucifer's appearance. I love Tilda Swinton. And I dare to say that this movie deserves the 26th place on IMDB top 250 horror movie.

And I love Keanu Reeves in Constantine. I wonder what means this phrase "Keanu Reeves has learnt to play Keanu Reeves". I mean... this guy has no credit at all between ordinary people? Cause all his co-workers, actors, directors describe him as one of the most disciplined, trained, dedicated and modest stars of all times. It's up to you to hate him, but as for me, disregarding his beautiful facial bone structure, he is one of the greatest stars (as well as strange ones)of all times. World would be smaller without Keanu Reeves'way. I respect him.

Add me to the list. I really, really like this movie. I think it is smart, different and full of interesting details and concepts. I love the "feel" and atmosphere of the film. I enjoy a movie that can spark an interesting evening of discussion and speculation, and Constantine does that. It feels like a slightly grittier "Dresden Files".

Not a "great" movie, but I can re-watch with pleasure.

I'm with the OP and everyone else apparently. This was fun enough the first time, but it seems to get better and better over the years. The script it tight, the FX are creative and fun, and the acting is really good all around, with two truly GREAT performances by Swinton and Stormare. Constantine went far and above what could reasonably be expected of a supernatural/action flick and by over delivering on every level deserves to be thought of as a classic of its genre.

If you really love the movie and you can watch it over and over, and you really enjoy it...

Is it really a guilty pleasure? This makes me wonder, what does Guilty pleasure mean then? If you really love something and you love everything about it, doesn't that make it just one of your favorite movies instead?

Do people need to say the words "guilty pleasure" so that other people don't think they are lame for liking it? Just wondering.

You answered your question inside the same question.
They like a movie, but feel ashamed for liking it. That makes it a guilty pleasure.

Also, for me is different than everyone else.

For me, The first time I saw it in the theater (I Saw it the very last week it was in theaters)
I completely fell in love with this movie. It was one of the most amazing movies I've ever seen. I don't know why. The story is not that great to some people and some call it boring or slow...
but for me it was perfect. I Loved everything, I loved every character in it, I loved the way the city looked, I loved the demons and the angels among us. I loved Satan, I loved the music a lot.
But what I loved most was how Heaven and Hell both looked like cities. I really really loved that so much.
This was one of those movies that left me thinking about it for days. I just loved what I saw so much.

I honestly do not know why I liked the movie so much, I really cannot answer why this had such a great impact on me, All I know is that it is in my top ten favorite movies.
I guess it has to do with how the city looked and how real Constantine felt to me, I felt like he was someone I knew
