Memories of Murder vs Zodiac
Which one do you think is better? Two are quite similar and based on true story.

shareI definitely see the comparison in how the stories were told and I really enjoyed both of these films. However, Memories of Murder for me was such a fantastically, unique, fusion of genres that it left quite a lasting impression.
shareI will speak for everyone else and I will say Zodiac.
Zodiac 10/10
MOM 8/10
Loved Memories of murder but this comparison does seem slightly unfair.
"There. There."
They were both great movies but I will say Memories of Murder. I liked the whole comedy element to it.
shareAgain- both great films. I think Memories might be slightly better, seeing how it came first and the obvious influence it played on Zodiac, yet still doesn't feel dated or inferior in any way. Also I think the pacing is a bit better in Memories and it seems to have more to say about society as a whole. Zodiac is an amazing film as well, though.

Welp then hopefully you'll stop watching Asian movies so you never come on boards to comment on them.
Stand By For Action!
I don't think the movie turns into a "tearjerker" towards the end. When the "more reasonable" cop at the end loses control and even tries to kill the suspect, it shows that he has been so emotionally attached to the case, especially after the last victim, whom he had some interaction with, got killed.
I don't particularly enjoy Korean movies either. But other than that I don't have much to agree with you. Why the main characters cannot be despicable? We have enough movies that portray main characters simply as "good guys" or "bad guys". Why movies can't have characters that are more like ordinary human beings, who you cannot simply say whether they are 100% good or bad, who may be not nice, not likable, not totally immoral but have some dark side?
Just saw Memories of Murder last night and was struck by the similarities to Zodiac but have to say even though i really liked Zodiac i think it did drag a wee bit and much preferred the character development and humor in the first half of Memories of Murder to Zodiac.
Memories of Murder 10/10
Zodiac 9/10
I absolutely loved both films. They're the most engrossing crime thrillers I've seen in the last 15 or so years. Both films are equal parts haunting, atmospheric, chilling, and feature great acting with strong characterizations. The intensity of the pursuit also heats up to the point where we feel the same single-minded obsession as the protagonists in both films, and that's no easy feat of filmmaking.
That said, I will give the slight edge to Memories of Murders. It's more successful in blending satirical humor (not that Zodiac really attempts it that much, but it's just one more aspect MoM is successful at). And not to slight Jake Gyllenhaal as he delivered a fine performance in Zodiac, but the leads in MoM were stronger on the whole.
Zodiac had some humor if you can think back.
Robert Downey to Gyllenhaal: "Jesus Harold Christ on rubber crutches Bobby, what are you doing? Youre doing that thing. The thing that we discussed, the thing that I dont like, starts with an L..."
"Oh, looming."
"Yeah."
I honestly don't think a real comparison can be made here. Yes, they both deal with obsession and unsolved murders, but, in my opinion, they are two completely different films.
shareDefinitely Memories of Murder.
So many layers... with social commentary..
great scenery, amazing editing, and direction...
even humorous and strong characterizations.
Freaky and frustrating too.

Zodiac is ok but this movie is far superior. It came before Zodiac. It has way better pace and character development. It really draws you in. Zodiac gets somewhat boring in the middle not this movie though. Truly a masterpiece. i think Seven was far superior than Zodiac in that regard.
