I have seen only a handful of films from Korea, but so far they are all very well-made. Korea has really put itself on the cinematic map in the last decade. What are some of the best Korean films you have seen to date?
My top 5 1. Oldboy 2. Memories of Murder 3. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring 4. The Host 5. Oasis
1. Poetry - simply left me speechless 2. Madeo - one of the best twists 3. Peppermint Candy - reverse chronology. kickass 4. Memories of Murder - the ability to engage you for the whole 2 hours 5. The Host - comedic, melodramatic, action. epic!
I have seen 13 korean movies and these were my top 8:
1. A Tale of Two Sisters - flawless mix of suspense/cinematography/score which compliment each other beautifully. Some argue that the movie is slow but every single scene has extreme detail which makes spotting the subtleties in the rewatch so satisfying. (10/10) 2. My Sassy Girl - most touching movie in this list, superb acting by Jun Ji-Hyun, largely based on a true story which make it even funnier! (9.5/10) 3. Oldboy (9.5/10) 4. The Man From Nowhere (9/10) 5. Memories of Murder (9/10)
Not in the same league as the others but nevertheless worth watching:
6. A Bittersweet Life (8/10) 7. The Chaser (8/10) 8. Lady Vengeance - absolutely stunning cinematography, unfortunately I did not really like Yeong-ae Lee's character(7/10)
1. I Saw the Devil 2. Oldboy/Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (both easily succeed Lady Vengeance) 3. Memories of Murder/Thirst 4. JSA 5. A Bittersweet Life/The Chaser
