Hollywood, let alone Disney, will never...

...make a movie like this again. It's about overcoming incredible odds through hard work, not crying and complaining until someone gives you something you didn't earn.

Also, it's incredibly pro-USA, which is a big no-no in mainstream movies now.

Enjoy this one before it's conveniently canceled for one stupid reason or another.

McFarland, USA (2015, Disney) echoed many of these same themes.

But it's true that Disney's focus has shifted to pleasing international audiences with stories set in fictional universes.

I love Miracle for all the reasons you mentioned.

I'll have to find McFarland and watch it. I wouldn't say I'm a flag-waving patriot, but I miss Hollywood movies that ATTEMPT to speak to so-called flyover country.

reply

It's set in California's Central Valley (mostly farmland) but might as well be flyover country. Mass market Hollywood films don't really pay attention to working class stories anymore. The last quality one I saw was Hell or High Water (2016).

reply

Yes. Hell or High Water was good.

It could be made but movies like this one likely don’t have huge budgets that don’t rely on foreign box office as much to be a hit. It feels like it wouldn’t be made today because sports movies are hardly made anymore.

I miss Disney of the early 2000s. The channel had so much better stuff on it back then; better movies too.

reply

You're right.

Patriotism sadly feels like an endangered species in the United States right now and the media and our entertainment industry seem determined to kill it off entirely. Fuck that.

Miracle is a really good movie. No way Disney would make it today. I'm sure they'd rather make a movie about trans people or something.

reply

Well when the country is full of worthless immigrants who only come here to mooch tax dollars and be exploited for cheap labor, there isn't going to be any patriotism. They all love their homeland more, but for some reason left it like cowards, unwilling to improve it, and instead bringing all their problems here and making the U.S. exactly like the place they left...a third world country.

The Blindside, 42 and Greatest Game Ever Played are higher rated than Miracle today. Nothing against those, it's just absurd Miracle is not ranked greater.
