I'll be honest. I'm a guy and I don't usually cry at movies, but every time I watch this movie. I can't help but cry especially wen Al Michaels says "Do you believe in Miracles". The whole ending was emotional and Kurt Russell's performance made this movie.
I was 14 when I saw this in theaters. I played Hockey and have always loved it, drawn life lessons from it, it's my favorite sport.
"Miracle" was the first time I ever cried at a movie. I was a weeping 14 year old in a theater not understanding why just feeling triumphant enough to stand up and cheer.
Two other movies ever made me cry - Slumdog Millionaire and most recently Silver Linings Playbook.
Happy endings get me, what am I supposed to do?!?!
But not even Slumdog or Silver Linings (both showered with Oscars) could not make me cry the way Miracle did.
I walked out of the theater with a total blubber face.
As a non-sports fan, the ending does bring me to tears. The feeling of accomplishing something so many thought was impossible is inspiring to say the least.
I do tear-up at times because I recall it so very fondly. I was 24 at the time, was one of the few that thought going in that they had a medal chance and literally came thisclose to ordering tickets for those final weekend Friday games with my dad. (A 3 hour drive for me). I had AHL season tix and not many I knew in that crowd thought they had medal chances.
