My all-time favorite show, BUT...

On rewatches I skip all the Steve, Langrishe and his troop, and (sorry to admit it) Jane scenes. I have lost count of the number of times I have watched each and every one of the show’s 36 episodes, and the characters do help fill out the incredibly authentic-feeling world that David Milch created, but I have no patience for them in rewatches. Characters I either skip entirely or give less than my full attention on rewatches are (outside of those I already named):

Hostetler and Samuel Fields
Most Joanie stuff (especially when she shares scenes with Jane)
Season 3 Cy Tolliver (after the show moved past him and had little for him to do)
And EB Farnum (I don’t skip his scenes, but when it’s him with anyone other than Al or Richeson, he doesn’t get my full attention).

Who is your favorite character? If you have done rewatches of the show as I have, are there any scenes or characters you skip?

Dig what you're saying...know many with that same opinion. One critique...Tolliver was far from finished with his story arc. Obviously it's done now...but cy was on the mend and returning to form!

I just watched all three seasons again...oh, the dialog.

I still can't believe that HBO did not continue this series when it was originally on...and even though it would not be historically accurate, Hearst so badly needed a worst outcome....

Also, the slow evolution of Swearengen was something...and then how he still stayed the same....

I've been watching for the first time and am halfway through season 3.
I avoided previously because it was a western (not my fav genre) and because I knew it ended without resolution.
With the movie coming out soon I decided to dive in.

It may not be my favorite but I'm definitely glad I finally watched it. I've enjoyed it once I got past all the c*#ks**kers and MF's. It's almost comical with the language...
Weird seeing Timothy Olphant, so cocky and humorous on Justified, play such a rigid straight laced man.

I won't say more about the ending because you'll see soon....

It's really going to be interesting how they are going to explain what has happened in the ten-year gap (reportedly it resumes ten years later - even though it aired 12 yrs ago).

Luckily, other than for Powers Boothe, it looks like all the other cast members are still living.

I'm also re-watching Justified and still amazed at the dialog in that show, too....think it is one of the most underrated shows....

Justified is not underated.

the Jane and Joanie lesbian kissing club in the last few episodes was some of the most awkward and out of place BS i've seen in such a high-caliber show

It seemed to me that the Langrishe Theatre was an unfinished part of the story. It started in season 3 and disappeared (along with all the other story lines) with the horrid fucking abrupt abortion of the series. I would have liked to see them in the movie.

I agree with the Jane scenes, but I think Steve wins the honor of being the most outrageously annoying piece of shit character, at least due to his blind racism. He is a character that you beg to be murdered, but he lives on far past Wild Bill as a fucking vegetable that some might feel sorry for.

Cy Tolliver wasn't able to be part of the movie, due to Powers Boothe's death by the horrible fucking pancreatic cancer, which is a shame because he was fucking amazing with his super-intense deadly insanity. That was an actor/character that could put you on edge every time they were on scene--you never knew if someone was going to live, die, or be verbally reamed to hell, with no warning or point, whenever he was there.

Richardson (Al Richeson) was one of my favorite underdog characters--he played stupid wonderfully, and the scenes where he revealed this cleverness were amusing. Sadly, he also had passed away before the movie in 2015.

HBO is re-running season ONE -- Now

Haven't seen it since the 1st showing and watched all of the show and the separate movie

In My Humble Opinion --- IT has NOT aged well
