Anyone else dislike Bullock?

Watching this a second time, I'm reminded how much of a moody *beep* Bullock is. Irritates me every time he's on screen. And his relationship with Hickok was always awkward, seemed like they had a little schoolgirl crush on each other, always giving the other "the eyes".

IMNSHO, Olyphant's portrayal of such a complex character is brilliant.

Bullock is supposed to be annoying. He has that innner turmoil thing going. His flaws, sense of right from wrong and his sense of duty to protect those who need protection from predators/bullies.

I agree WalkGoodPhil! Timothy's portrayal of Seth was mind blowing! I also loved the understated performance of John Hawkes as Sol! This entire cast was pretty much brilliant.

more often than not I get the impression that most of the Bullock critic is based on the viewer not liking his character.
Bullock is not the hero of this story, there are no heroes. Deadwood shows that right away.
Bllock is about justice. And not about being nice.

...but they hung him anyway.
Hanged, Ami. Your father was not a tapestry.

I think a hot-headed cop is as old as time itself....

It's just Timothy Olyphant isn't a great actor. I think Lee van Cleef or a typical heavy might make Bullock more likeable. Bullock picking fights is just annoying.

Taking away screen time from Ian MacShane/Swearengen is criminal.

Timothy Olyphant's performance as Bullock is literally, ahem-cough-cough, Dead Wood. 😭

Care to explain in detail why he's a bad actor? And don't just say "he's wooden".

He looks and sounds as though he belongs to the cast of Entourage; Olyphant sounds like a surfer. A Western character is well-embodied by someone like Lee van Cleef and Keith Carradine who played Wild Bill and his role was far too short-lived. Great actors of Westerns have strong, masculine presence that comes naturally to them. Olyphant was mimicking the same diction and moves but it was obvious he was mimicking. It wasn't from within.

Care to explain why you think he's any good?

His goofy walking without moving his hands and his way of talking and facial expressions are a pain to watch. Him and Kim Dickens (who can't act to save her life) almost ruined the show for me. Olyphant played the same one-dimensional character in Justified also, proof that the guy really can't act.

The amount of idiocy you contain is brilliant.

One dimensional character? That's hilarious. Go back to watching your soap operas.

Couldn't agree with you more! I can't stand his character. Idk why he has any friends at all.

I disliked Bullock as a character because, to me, he seemed so self righteous and priggish, yet hypocritical (can't remember specifics as it is a long while since I watched it), but that, I presume was what the writers intended. I loved how Sweareggan(sp) refers to having a meeting with "His Holiness, the sheriff").
