top 5 scariest movies

this movie succeeded in scaring the living hell out of me, and therefore replaces all of those rings and grudges out there.

1. Gothika
2. Night of the Living Dead(remake)
3. The Grudge
4. The Ring
5. White Noise

Grudge 2 looks to be promising, however.

Nice list..
I am not sure if I should recommend you any 5 films if you think those are scary, but here are some..

* Poltergeist
* Ju-on: The Grudge
* The Thing (Carpenter's version)
* Ils (English name: Them)
* [Rec]

PS. I tried to choose films that I enjoy watching time after another. Not something that has only some jump scares that don't work any more after the first watch..
(The movies here are not any order. That is why there are no numbers.)

Gothika, really? The bird and umbrella jump scares were ridiculous, and the only thing that really managed to make me jump was when Halle was in her cell, leaned down, and you could see the face of the creepy girl right behind her.

With the exception of the "the Sixth Sense" I can't think of a good horror movie that's come out in a long time. Modern audiences seem to like trash like Gothika that rely on cheap scares and not many original genuinely creepy stories coming out of hollywood anymore. However, for those of you that don't mind subtitles and are ready to pass on the lame watered down Hollywood remakes, there's a lot of good horror in the foreign film sections from countries like Spain, Sweden and Korea
