LOVED THE MOVIE BUT NOT THE COMMENT.................

I am 55 years old and I am a big Horror film fan. I've seen the most unwatchful (due to it's fear factor, gore, etc.) to the most innocent in the old days.

I just loved the movie "Van Helsing" as well as the great performances by Kate and Hugh Jackman. I am not joking here but I strongly feel to this day, that Richard Roxburgh deserved an Oscar for his portrayal of Dracula. Vampires and werewolves have always been the creatures that I have followed the most and Richard's version of Dracula, was the best I have ever seen in all of my years. I have too many accolades to lay down on the screen.

Well, Stephen Sommers directed the film and in it, he put Boldly "For my Dad."

I happen to see an interview with Kate Beckinsale about the movie and she answered something to the effect of "Yech, don't remind me.

If your not happy about starring in a movie it's one thing. But don't blast it publicly, especially when he dedicated the movie to his father.

I was a very big Kate Beckinsale fan until that movie. I have never written this about any movie star but to hurt someone, or actually two people if his father is still alive, is unforgivable in my book. I will not watch another movie she is in.

As Napoleon Hill said " Wise men, when in doubt whether to speak or to keep quiet, give themselves the benefit of the doubt and remain silent."

This seems excessive and unnecessary.

Your main criticism is that she said something negative about the movie, and that the movie was dedicated to the director's father. Those two things have absolutely no connection. I'm sure that the fact that it was dedicated to that guy was not the first thing that sprang to her mind when she was answering that question. She might not even know or remember that this was the case. Regardless, what difference does it make? Why is this movie immune to negativity because of who it is dedicated to? If I start dedicating my IMDB posts to dead relatives, does that mean that no one can argue with them?

Also, I would be curious when that interview happened. If it was around the time of the movies release and was focused on the movie, I agree that it would be dumb of her to say negative things about it. Doing so would just make the movie look bad and hurt it in the box office. The way she responded though makes it seem like it was an interview much later on about something else, in which case it isnt a big deal if she was negative about it. If she didnt enjoy making the movie, she has the right to say that.

This wouldn't be the first time I've seen actors dump on a film one likes. My family loves the movie "Enemy Mine," for example, but Dennis Quaid, who starred in the film, did not enjoy working on it, and hated it when he finally got to watch the final cut.

I loved "Star Trek: Insurrection," and yet was unhappy to hear Marina Sirtis say it was boring to work on and a big snore.

Sometimes I wish Hollyweird would put a gag order on actors so they aren't allowed to talk about how they really feel about working on a film. Sadly, that would violate the First Amendment, and honestly, some of them don't know how to shut up anyway.

Tbh the later Underworlds were TRASH compared to this movie (I'm hoping they don't make anymore, written: 2024), she may have been criticizing her own performance in this movie, though? I haven't seen the interview so I can't know for sure, but was she criticizing the entire movie or just her role?

I think she did pretty well but, unfortunately, knowing she has a posh British accent, the whole Romanian accent didn't suit her (like most fake accents don't suit most people) and should have just used her natural accent.

There were obvious flaws with the movie, but it did have a nice charm and aesthetic about it and a lot of other good points. 8/10 from me!
