Is it me or did steve martin write then direct and star in this movie so he could get some from a girl young enough to be his daughter? That is why I will never watch this movie.

There was nothing illegal about the relationship depicted on the screen (it's not as if it's uncommon throughout the world) and towards the end of the film narrator Ray admits that in pursuing Mirabelle, he only succeeded in hurting both her and himself, something he now regrets and for which he is sorry.
I think many of the posters on some these threads are taking little things out of context and not focussing on the big picture in front of them.
