man on fire vs taken

very similar films in my opinion, 'taken' edges it on the imdb rating with 7.8, maybe i have to rewatch taken, but i thought man on fire takes the edge with cinematograghy and character development..

MOF was more of a drama, whereas Taken was more of a straight up action movie. Both leads were badasses, and ruthless.

reply

Like many ppl here I also liked both, but the characters of Man on fire are much more interesting and layered. Taken just has very good action sequences

Man on Fire 8.5
Taken 7

I thought Taken was mildly entertaining. Pretty much your standard action flick from top to bottom. I enjoyed Liam Neeson but overall Taken was about as formulaic as it gets. Granted, there are times when that's what I'm in the mood see but when compared to MOF Taken falls WELL short.

Just check out this superscientific, computer-generated point system:

Man on Fire
+1 Performnace by lead cast
+1 Performance by supporting cast
+1 Storyline
+1 Dialogue
+1 Character development
+1 Cinematography
+1 Emotional impact
___________
7

Taken
+1 Liam Neeson
+1 Smash cut fight sequences
+1 Not having to say "I told you so" to ex-skank-wife because she now sees the error in her ho' bag-father/daughter relationship undermining-bitch ways.
____________

I mean, seriously. lol

If it pays right and it's legal, I'll do it.
.......Well......if it pays right, I'll do it.

I'll just come out and say it.
Taken.

Probably Taken. The dude never gives up and doesn't give a second thought about killing anybody that gets in his way to get his daughter back. The head guy that bought his daughter couldn't even get out the words "lets make a deal" before he got knocked off. At the end of the movie, Neeson is back in the states with his daughter.

As for MOF, Washington gives himself up at the end to get the girl back to her mommy. No fight, no happy ending. Score one for the bad guys.

Taken wasn't even believable, let along a good movie. Man on Fire is a masterpiece.

reply

I like both movies but Man on Fire is a better film.

This is very, very difficult. But sometimes children are bad people, too.

MOF hands down

reply

actually the two movies are really terrible and overrated in unbelievable way..
one man can by himself smash the whole *beep* world..
and for kids that depends on imdb rating >>> get some medicine

Hmm, interesting topic. Yes, hard to decide which of these two pieces of excrement was worse. Gotta go with Taken, possibly the most ridiculous, stupid movie ever made.

Right, then, old chap. Large brandies all around, what?
