Samurai vs. Ninjas - best fight scene I've ever seen on film

Absolutely riveting and so realistic. Has me on the edge of my seat each time I watch it. At the end, the shout by Ujio and the Samurai gives me chills.

The FF had better fight scenes imo:

The Raid
Ip Man
Rurouni Kenshin Trilogy
Legend of the Drunken Master
John Wick Trilogy
Flash Point
SPL
The Mark of Zorro (1940)

John Wick is just silly bs

Realistic?

Ninjas were all about stealth, not about open, clumsy assault. They went down in such stupid ways, one had to shake one's head in disgust and disappointment.

They didn't show any stealth ability in the movie. They should've been almost never seen at all, only a small movement in the shadows, then a deadly shuriken flashes from the darkness and someone dies. No one could pinpoint where they are, no one would be able to see or hear them, just some vague movement all around the place, but no individual target to aim at.

They should've been like particles basically; "You can never know a particle's position and momentum at the same time."

Also, the ninja had all kinds of more advanced spiritual abilities, like mind control and such, which was not shown at all. I guess there's a limit to a moviemaker's bravery.. after all, reality has to always be shown to be completely physical and nihilistic, and spiritual things that can be shown are just things like 'meditation' and 'lit candles and incense', but it can't go further than that..

.. realistic? More like 'completely disappointing'.

LOOOOOL

. . .You've been watching too many B movies.

Don't make assumptions about people you don't even know.

My knowledge doesn't come from movies, but nice that you felt compelled to write an insulting comment without contributing with anything of substance or original thought.

Is it common in your family or circle to believe what movies tell you? That sounds a little bit silly.

You sound like you have not researched Japan, Japanese culture, Japan's history or the whole topic of 'Ninja' or 'Shinobi' (or 'Kunoichi') at all.

Of course anyone that starts their post with "LOOOOOL" loses all credibility in anything they have to say afterwards.. only toddlers think that's a clever thing to say, and knowing what 'LOL' means, makes "LOOOOOL" nonsensical; are you really "Laughing Out Out Out Out Out Loud"?

Now, please think, research and talk like an adult if you want to ACTUALLY have a conversation instead of just slamming down someone you don't know for reasons that are not intelligent or wise, and have nothing to back it up, unless you want to embarrass yourself further.

You have me literally CRYING with laughter. You posted some absolute Drivel about ninjas, clearly culled from pop culture. I pointed out your absurdity. Then you tripled down on your stupidity: assuming I'm assuming when You are assuming.

Make a mighty effort to stop & think: Am I American? Japanese? Male? Female? An expat living in Sendai, doing a PhD thesis on Medieval Japan, with an emphasis on the tension between Shogun & Emperor, Bakufu and Buddhism?

There's no "intelligent" conversation to be had, with you. You simply don't know what you're talking about. Hilarious that you think *I'm* the one embarrassing myself. Go sit down, somewhere. Read a book.

The proper 'realistic battle' would have looked something like this:

Ninjas would first CHOOSE a much better time to attack. They would NOT do it when everyone is fully alert, awake, non-drunk, capable of striking back and defending themselves as a big group. They would not attack A GROUP anyway. That's just common sense.

The masters of stealth, which ninjas really were (unlike the goofballs shown in this movie), would've waited until everyone is asleep, then picked their victims _CAREFULLY_ and silenced them one by one, without anyone being able to detect them.

As mentioned, ninjas had spiritual powers, which means they could be 'invisible' (moving in etheric plane instead of physical, for example, is depicted even in old, historical paintings), they could mind control people, they could make them sleep or delusional, hear or see things that aren't there, or not see or hear things that are, and so on and so forth.

But even if we disregard that, ninjas would actually - thinking in common sense - probably do something like..

..silencing the weakest people first, so they have the least resistance. Then moving on to the stronger people. They would have no trouble in insta-killing sleeping people silently - there are various methods, from quick-acting poison (while covering the victim's mouth, for example), to cutting their head off, and so on, you can easily imagine dozens more.

This way, by the time _anyone_ realizes what's going on, it's not going to be Tom Cruise seeing someone on the roof in 'broad daylight' (I know it was night-time, but it was incredibly and unrealistically bright up there on the roof area - why a NINJA would choose to be in such bright light, being completely visible, is beyond me - and of course no self-respecting ninja would. Also, these ninjas don't even have the most rudimentary haragei or any kind of intuition, real ninja would know to avoid that roof spot purely because of this)..

..there will be VERY few people alive.

reply

Those alive people are still groggy from their sleep, not sure if they're even awake or still dreaming, and the ninja mind control, stealth abilities, dark clothing and poisoned darts can take care of the rest - the 'alive people' will never fully wake up from their rest.

There you go, village demolished, problem eliminated, roll credits.

It was a really stupid idea to use ninjas when they're shown to be more clumsy than in Shō Kosugi-movies in the eighties.. 'best fight scene ever' my buttocks.

These fight scenes COULD have been even just "common-sense-realistic", like instead of ninjas, just ANY old 'slightly trained, thinking assault-people' would've done pretty much what I outlined here, and it would've been more realistic.

They didn't have to be ninjas, they could've been just "people sent to murder that village".

Of course if you think about these things, this kind of movies fall apart very quickly. I mean, they showed us they have gunpowder, guns, explosives, all kinds of fancy stuff. So why not use something like that against the village, especially when everyone's sleeping?

Why didn't anyone attack the village with an army at any point anyway? If they wanted all those people dead, wouldn't it have been better to just go there with a big army and just obliterate the village completely with their guns, 'cannons' and explosives? They obviously know where the village is, and yet they give them time to prepare and everything. They come towards the village, but they don't finish the job.

It's kind of weird how both sides serve the same emperor and still have a need to fight. The conflict in this movie is interesting, but not very well explained, and seems slightly nonsensical when you think about it - it's not like the 'cowboys vs. indians'-stuff, as the tension between the samurai and the western / modernized people were not similar at all.

Oh well, at least this movie is educational, and basically gives us a small taste or glimpse of what it must've been like to live in the Edo period (even though this movie takes place much later).

You are romanticizing ninjas much like the samurai are romanticized in the film. Ninjas are stealthy assassins and spies, they are not mythical. They are just people trained to do a job. Your post makes me think of the way China holds onto the "kung fu masters are so well trained they are magical" and a Chinese MMA fighter called out this bs mode of thinking and challenged these so called "magical masters" to fight. The MMA fighter mopped the floor with the master dumb enough to fight him (all the other masters wouldnt fight him because they knew for all their claims they would get their butt whooped). Chinese government was so angry at the MMA fighter they reduced his social score to zero and ruined his life.

Heres a video that shows what I wrote about as well https://youtu.be/Ycu7dvHBzk0

My thoughts on your "ninjas remain stealthy", I think the film portrayed the ninja samurai fight well. They struck when they thought was best and caught the samurai by utter surprise. They did their stealthy attack and pushed forward while the samurai where off balance. Thats a good strategy. Theres only so much stealth and sneakiness you can maintain when fighting someone. You need to use strategy and common sense. If you surprise attack, the element of surprise lasts for that attack. You cannot remain hidden and keep attacking, that makes no sense. The samurai will group up (like they did in the film) and pinpoint where you are based on your attacking.

The only way your mode of thinking works, is if the ninjas attacked when everyone was sleeping. But maybe they didnt do that because they observed the samurai keeping weapons close and sleeping in different shifts. At the stroy show, most of the samurai where close together and not paying attention which is a perfect time to let loose many projectile weapons and then push forward when the element of surprise is over.
