Looney Tunes Back in Action or Space Jam
I think Space Jam is better.
sharei enjoyed space jam better. back in action wasnt bad, but it wasnt as exciting as i thought it would be. it would've been better had they done like space jam and put the human actors in more cartoon situations, like maybe squashing jenna elfman and brendan frasier into basketballs. LOL it wouldnt have made much sense but it woulda been pretty funny seeing them get bounced around and slam dunked.

Looney Tunes:Back in Action, though I liked them both.

Space Jam all the way - that was the only film that as a kid I watched twice in a row, I loved it so much. It is quite memorable and actually has a plot, unlike Back in Action that is all over the place, has barely any plot and has been crammed with so much pop culture that it looks like a commercial. The most Space Jam had out of pop culture was Micheal Jordan whom everyone knows about (and I'm not even American).
I'm just surprised that Space Jam got a lower rating as it has a lot of people liking it.....
Back in action because it's funnier (And Looney Tunes are suppose to be funny).
shareWithout a doubt Space Jam is the better movie. And thats not just the nostalgia talking, IMO Space Jam is a more solid film than Back in Action. Space Jam's plot was straight forward, the characters were more likable and the bball sequences were amazingly well done as Michael Jordan interacted and moved fluidly along the toon characters. I've noticed some people think that Bugs and the others are pushed to the side for MJ, however thats not true. The Looney Toons kick started the plot, its their conflict that drives the movie. Don't forget, Bugs and the gang are on the poster too, not just MJ. I think of Space Jam as a classic crossover, which both universes getting equal screentime.
Back in Action was simply put, sloppy. The plot was non-sensical, the established Looney Toon characters were ruined, and the gags were outdated, and it was so far up its own a$$ with the pop culture references. Brendan Frasier and Jenna Elfman, were completely out of place, not because they were human, but their characters were dull and uninspiring. In fact, the movie could of gone on without Frasier and Elfman. Steve Martin ruined the movie. His character was obnoxiously over the top and unfunny, it felt like Dante was shoving that character down our throat.
Joe Dante said that Space Jam ruined some of the Looney Toons' personalites. That confused me for the longest time cause he never really elaborated on that. Yet, he has benevolent characters such as Granny back stabbing Bugs and co. I sense a little hypocrisy. Another major factor Space Jam has over Back in Action is that for the first time ever, all the Looney Toon characters are joining forces. Working together to save their universe. It was actually refreshing to see that.
I also think that SPACE JAM had much better advertising and merchandising that LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION. I remember that I had:
Mcdonald's tie-in toys
2 of those 3-d image books
A Space Jam art kit that had a few coloring and painting books in it..
Movie Comic
Soundtrack, both
That's not all of it, but i remember having all of that stuff at one time. LT: BIA i would say had next to nothing in terms of merchandising..
Except it wasn't the Looney Tunes joining forces for once, because it wasn't them. They looked like them, talked like them, but their personalities weren't there. It was completely contrived to prop up Michael Jordon. The plot mainly works because it ignores who these characters are. If you were a fan of the old shorts, then it doesn't make sense for it to be "refreshing" that they were unified when the comedy came from their conflict. Daffy and Bugs do work together in LT, they end up saving the day, but they do it in a way that's true to their characters.
shareIf you can give examples, specify how the Looney Toon character weren't themselves.
shareYou do realize that most of the looney tunes went through 2-3 personality changes since the 30's-90's?
shareSpace Jam
shareSpace Jam. Dante did a great job creating Gremlins, but this movie was garbage. He hated Space Jam because it was such a hit and this movie couldn't hold a candle to it let alone the classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Ron Paul 2012!
I like both movies, but overall I liked BACK IN ACTION BETTER, mainly cause I'm not a big sports fan, so BIA was more my speed as far as the storyline went. Plus, it concentrated more on the Looney Tune characters than SPACE JAM did. Though, like I said, both movies are great.

Neither is that great but I think Back in Action is a more solid film. I could at least sit through that one without wanting to stab myself with a sharp object.
The problem with both films is that there was way too much focus on the boring as hell live action characters and not enough focus on who the audience WANTS to see... the Looney Tunes. They're funny. Michael Jordan, Brendan Fraser, and whoever the hell the chick is in Back in Action... were not funny. Both films suffer because of that.
It's the opposite of Roger Rabbit where the cartoon characters AND the live action characters were generally interesting and not just a marketing ploy to put asses in seats.

Has everyone forgotten the classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit? that was one that united all the cartoon studios from tom and Jerry to Looney Tunes and all those inbetween
Hell is other People
I love both!
And Tom and Jerry weren't in Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Back in Action easily the best, wonder why it bombed.
Having read many of the previous posts, there is nothing really more I could add about why Back in Action is the better one, but I do find it shocking and dissapointing that anyone would prefer Space Jame.
Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003)- 8/10. This is the funniest movie that I have ever seen.
Space Jam (1996)- 6/10. This was a little strange for me.
Volker Flenske: (While torturing David) I don't know why you're doing this to yourself!
Roger Rabbit reigns supreme, but "Looney Tunes Back in Action" is a pretty damn good runner up.
Space Jam on the other hand is IMO one of the worst movies ever made.
Hate it.
