I think evry movie is intended to be for the audience it's advertized for. When they put the label "kids!, come and see it", we assume we must run and see it whith them. Well, this is the major flaw in "The Cat In The Hat". It has all a kid movie must: Colours, jokes, a moral advise, etc..., but..., in a so very messy way my 6yo son didn't get half of it. The cat scared him, most jokes are intended for grown ups (and most are too silly), the military school as a punishment is confusing (we all hace militars in our families, and not all of them are ogers). If it wasn't rated PG I would have been very angry with it.
So I can't help thinking that it would have been much much better if they would just stick to the original concept, or, otherwise, they make it a true adult oriented parody, which would have been very funny.
Shrek is diffrent, maybe there are people that found it not so funny, but it's definitively suitable both for children and adults.
Is it THAT bad? I don't know, I laughed a couple of times, wich is more than many "comedies" have reached. The kids are sweet and i loved that fish. But it got stucked in the middle of nothing and that always annoys people.

Holy crap.
I've said this on a few other boards:
It's a movie! You're supposed to like it because it's entertaining, not because of the marketing or meaning or anything. I liked this movie, but it wasn't that great. Get alife, people!
It's the same thing with "Lady in the Water". I thought that movie was good. Just because it doesn't explain the meaning of life or change your life doesn't mean that it's bad.
Movies were made to entertain, not to get a bunch of 20-year-old loser geeks who probably smoke pot and live in their mothers' basements argue about whether it was good or not.
And before you criticize me for being on this board, I'm 13. So take this as a preemptive "shut up."

U made very good at telling u're 13 years old. At ur age i was less "demanding" on movies than i am now. Movies are in fact for much more than entertain. Movies give messages, sometimes bring art, sometimes open your mind and other they close it. Movies tell stories, sometimes they teach and sometimes, just a few times they bring u all above. In adition they are supposed to be entertaining. I must tell you that i can't fint a movie entertaining if it hasnt a meaning, and probaly many in these boards think the same.
Now, as u are 13, maybe you should be a little bit less arrogant and be more respectful with people here. If u have a diffrent point of view about something u read here, its ur right to express it, but theres no reason to be aggressive in ur speech.

Actually, I'm 35, and YOU are right. I'm glad YOU told me that writing U instead of YOU make me look like I'm under 13, it's a nice way to go back to my youth. I will try not to make it again tho.
