Well that's something, but I really wanted a sequel with Crowe.

reply

Russell Crowe no longer looks anything like Cpt Jack Aubrey. Don't need Russell Crowe however. He didn't carry the film. If they can make another in the same vein, it will do well also.

reply

Yes he does. Aubrey is fat in the books.

reply

But he's not old. What was he when the last book came out, forty? Crowe is 57 and could pass for 70.

reply

Cool. It's gonna be all CGI. But it's still pretty cool.

reply

Sounds like it could be interesting. I wonder who'd they would cast in the lead?

reply

I sure hope they make Aubrey black this time. That would bring much needed diversity.

reply

Yeah, and then sailing under the flag of fuxxing Liberia...

reply

Nice one.

reply

I think that article just means that there's an O'Brian project floating around Development Hell.

I hope they succeed in making a movie, and if they're talking prequel I betcha they make a mishmash of the first two books - "Master and Commander", and "Post Captain".

reply

3 years later and it looks like the prequel project has not moved forward.

reply

Who would play Russell Crowe character?

I will never understand why there couldn’t have been more of these at the time to follow the books and that Crowe and Bettany would be in them. I know Weir said it was expensive, but in hindsight…. We all lost.

reply

I don't know, I can't think of anyone right now.

Yeah, I would have loved more movies with Crowe and Bettany. If this would have been more succesful financially I'm sure we would have gotten a sequel. We all definitely lost. At least we have this masterpiece.
