my favourite line, how about you?

my favourite line was when Peter was dressed up in all the clothes he bought from the other black dudes, and he is in the room talking to Howie, and Howie says
"you lookin like all kinds of stupid" and Peter says in a way he thinks is slang.
"really? well i got this outfit from your mama!"

i thought it was hilarious!!

how about you guys? whats your favourite line or part?

ps: i don't know if i got the line exactly right, correct me if i'm wrong.

"Fame is a fickle friend Harry, Remember...Celebrity is as celebrity does"

reply

When Howie gets his hair braided, he looks in the mirror at himself and says, "Holla' at ya' boy." LOL

When Peter was leaving his firm, he spots Ashley coming out of an office. He approaches her and says, "Ashley, who are you doing here?"

Funny movie.

reply

yzarcmai, you are the first person--besides me and my family--who has noticed how racist this film is.

"I really do have love to give. I just dont know where to put it."

My favourite line was wen Steve Martin saw Ashley and sed "Ashley, who r u doing here?", I also like the old lady "I do believe im completely stoned". They were great.

I don't c how this film is racist???

I thought this movie was pretty racist too. I'm not sure if racist is actually the word I'm looking for, but I would be insulted if I were Black. But I think that "that's the point," ultimately: line up people and pretend you're changing their minds (and the world). Eugene Levy was pathetic, I do think he was the worst. I don't like the way American bourgeoisie was made to interact with African American culture.

This being said, I liked two line: "I do believe I'm stoned" and "Ashley, who are you doing?"

I have a lot of fav. lines from this movie, a lot of them has been used, but one that hasen't been used is when Peter was talking to charlene *sp* and he was like..my daugthers going places, and charlene looked out the window and was like "Shes going places alright", i thought that was pretty funny.

My favorite line is " you got me straight boo".

reply

You got me straight trippen boo

And when Eugene Levy says to the old lady "you've got me all shaken up" or something to that effect to the old lady while driving to find Peter.

This movie is NOT racist/ Please get over yourselves, if anything its the OPPOSITE of racist, that uptight white people who have everything but are emotionally non-existant a singly career-driven, need to feel the beat and go with the flow and free their minds.

I'm sick of this ignorant everything is racist attitude that permeates anything thats Politically Incorrect.

You think Queen Latifah would be in a movie that was racist, c'mon give me a BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Racism has been really blown out of proportion recently. People think anything where jokes about race are made is racist. But that's why its called a joke. Political Correctness is screwing over the USA

The best one for me was pretty close to the end, when Howie was holding the gun straight, and Charlene was behind him and said "who's got the gun now", then turned Howie's hand to make it look "tougher" and said again, who's got the gun now. It was actually an easy thing to miss, but one that I really felt was close to perfection in its subtlety.

One of my favorites was near the end of the movie the lady comes out wiping her lips. Steve said "Who are you doing now?"

reply

I think it was on a deleted scene, or maybe not but at one point Charlene refers to Peter's neighbor Mrs. Kline and Mrs. Klan.

Anything Peter says to Ashley had me rolling.

reply

steve martin: so she bitch slapped him?

reply

When Steve's boss Tobias or something like that goes up to Charlene and he says "Listen....SISTER" in a mocking way. And then , "Why don't you take your little JUNGLE FEVER (While snapping his fingers in a mocking black person way) back to Sanderson before I call the cops?"

And when Steve says, "Maybe I should get security. No she could probably take 'em."
"I'm not humping my nanny." The way he says it.
Then he's all trying to explain. "Guys, we were moving a statue and we lost our footing and we fell!"

reply

i love everything Mrs. Klein said....
"Those.. latin people who were skulking about earlier....... Casing it?.....oh if one of them's on this block without a leaf blower..."
"Is everything ok? I thhought I heard NEGRO!"
"You look like a fag.."

and of course there was the part where Mrs. Arnez is there at the club and charlene had come in and he's all don't you love being our nanny charlene?
and she says:
"Yizzow....I thinks ah'll go down to de pool wit de chillun....come on chillun lets make fun of de white folks in heuh" all like she's some old slave maid in charge of de chillun in the 1840s or something.

And I'll always remember THE SONG...
"Momma....Is massa gonna sell us tomorrow?
YES....YES....YEES

reply

you all say it's racist, but no offense to black people, but black people talk about white people (take white chicks for example - white people are constantly being made fun of). It seems that society has accpeted black people calling whites, but if it's the other way round, then black people have a right mardy. i'm not racist, but it really does my head in.

and it's not as if charlene didn't call white people in this film...

"if i did, it's to wipe up the WHITE trash"

thisw film isn't racist. and if it was, dont you think queen latifah would have had something to say about it?

reply

I do agree with you with the fact that black people get offended at black jokes and then do the same thing and talk about whites or any other race for that matter. As a black female, I get really upset whenever ANY race joke is made or something politically incorrect is said. Of course, I feel I'm a minority in that situation. (No pun intended.)

However, I feel that in the case of this board and all the talk of racism, it's mostly white who are saying that this film is racist to blacks. Am I mistaken? I know that all of my black friends who saw this movie thought it was absolutely hilarious. That of course is part of the contribution to the problem: Black people can make jokes about black people, but if someone outside of our race does, all hell breaks loose.

Has anyone on this board seen the musical Avenue Q? One of the lines in the song, Everyone's a Little Bit Racist states, "Ethnic jokes might be uncouth, but you laugh because they're based on truth." People tend to take this attitude whenever race jokes are made. I'm not saying it's right, but there really is no way to solve the problem. Everything is based on stereotypes, which generally are created because a majority of people have acted a specific way or done a specific thing.

By the way, everyone should go check out the Avenue Q lyrics. Here's a link to that entire song here: http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/avenueq/everyonesalittlebitracist.htm

I feel like I'm going to get attacks because I posted the link to that song. So I'm going to explain this right now. The song is a SATIRE. Much like this entire movie is a SATIRE. The dictionary definition of a satire is a literary work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit.

guys can you please help me?
for what reason did steve's wife come back so early from her vacation?
i couldnt get that part and its bugging me?

reply

What about Arnez's song?

Mama, is master gonna sell us tomorrow?
Yes, yes, yeeeeees
.....

That was ridiculous.

Anything said by Betty White or Eugene Levy.

Also, Queen Latifah was the first to sign up to do this movie, helped produce it and gave loads of advice along the way. Do you guys REALLY think she would let the movie be racist, especially after coming off Chicago? C'mon guys, get over it, you look like fags.

My Favourite line is when Charlene first meets Peter and she's having the conversation with him, and especially when she says 'Somebody's plannin on gettin' some booty tonight' and she does the whole 'bum shake' thing. Or, when she is at Mrs Arness' house and she punches the gay colleauge of Peter's.
Also, they way she teaches Peter to have sex, and she's like 'Man, B*tches don't care nothing 'bout that s*it', or when she goes to Peters office and says 'Oh Peter. I absolutley love what you've done to this place, it's so bland, so sterile, so wonderful'.
She's awesome.

Queen Latifah is VERY talented. If she thought this movie was racist, I don't think she would've agreed to play the role of Charlene. Because they read the script before they actually agree to film.

IT'S NOT RACIST!!!

They never really said why she came back early but it is implied that she wasn't having a good time...didn't belong with that guy and wanted Peter back and that was probably the reason she came back early. At least I got that impression when she was with Ashley at the club and they saw Peter and Charlene there.

reply

She told him: "There were bears. They were eating the campers"

A great line came from Howie: He, Charlene, Mrs. Arnez and the dog were in the car. When Mrs. Arnez called Charlne a "whore", Howie told her to "watch
it or you'll be gumming your bubble and squeak!"

God, that has to be the most hilarious part of the movie. Hysterical.
