Seriously what do people see in this movie?

I enjoyed the book but the movie is so poorly directed and acted. One of the most awkwardly stupid movies I have ever seen , not to mention that it is just as campy and contrived as the first two just with all the charm and wonder sucked out of it (no this movie is not dark at all, the series didn’t get dark until the end of goblet of fire)

reply

YOU NEED IT TO GET TO THE NEXT ONE..OTHER THAN THAT...PFFT.

reply

I would rather enjoy myself while I move to the next one

reply

This one is actually one of my top favorites in the series.

reply

Why? There’s nothing good about it

reply

Gary Oldman is something good about it.

reply

Naw his overacting was garbage. He was much better in Air Force One and The Dark Knight

reply

Well it’s my opinion and you don’t have to agree with it.

reply

I don't

reply

Yes, it's one of my favorites also.

reply

Strange taste in movies you have, but you do you.

reply

It is my favourite book, but the movie didn't do it for me. Still though I like it better than 4 and 6.

reply

Naw 4 and 6 were great (two of my favorites), 3 is just a piece of garbage, it's the only one I don't like.

reply

4 and 6 disappointed me so much compared to the books. I think the tone shift with the different director really was jarring with 3. I think I still hold it in a higher regard because I really liked the book, but I understand why you don't like it.

reply

See the thing is I thought 3 was just as childish as 1 and 2, but I do agree the tone did kind of change because they took all of the fun and charm from the first two and sucked it right out while not making the film any more mature.

reply

I was also not happy with the actors they chose to play Sirius Black or Remis Lupin. Both are ugly and don't resemble the guys we read about in the books.

reply

Poorly directed by one of the most respected directors in the world, lol

reply

Based on his/her post history, everything 'MovieChatUser497' says should either be taken with a grain of salt or disregarded entirely.

reply

Why? Because you don't agree with me? What makes your opinion so damn important?

reply

Why? Because from my experience, not only do I disagree but also a great deal of your opinions/arguments aren't backed up by logic, substance, or original thought. This thread is only one example.

reply

Who are you to determine “logic”, “substance” or “original thought”?

reply

If you have to ask, you’ll never know.

reply

I guess that means you can’t explain it. Let me tell you something, sweetheart, your opinion isn’t any more important than anyone else’s and I think the sooner you accept that the sooner you’ll be happy with yourself.

reply

Even “respected” directors have bad movies. Spielberg, Coppola, Scorsese have all had their fair share of stinkers. And “one of the most respected directors” is a HUGE stretch.

reply

I agree. I never heard of Alfonso Cuaron before I saw this, although they kept mentioning his foreign language movie that I didn't care about at all. However, I did like Children of Men, which he directed after this.

reply

Jesus, “one of the most respected directors”
This is the guy who made that turd "Gravity"...

reply

From what I could tell back then, and just from glancing at these boards now, it appears that fans of the actual books don't care for this film. And people who only watch the movies love this film. Generally speaking of course.

reply

Yeah after seeing the first 2 I saw this one in theaters and I remember like 5 minutes in when Harry got on that stupid bus I was like "WTF am I watching?"

reply

The book was infinitely better than this movie adaptation. I particularly loved the Shrieking Shack plot in the book, and I was disappointed that the movie curtailed it so savagely. The books were better in general.

reply

Absolutely but all the movies were at least competently made except POA

reply

What defines “competent”
filmmaking from your perspective, pray tell?

reply

One that tells a story in an engaging manner and has decent acting. POA did neither. Also doesn’t have over the top awkward moments like that stupid Patronus scene or the free frame ending. Or doesn’t pretend to be dark and mature while it’s just as childish as the two before it. Or doesn’t have cringeworthy scenes of a bunch of boys in a dormitory making animal noises. Or doesn’t have off screen deaths such as Buckbeaks when its beyond obvious they didn’t really kill him. Or doesn’t have scenes where Harry assaults a Hogwarts professor and nothing is ever said about it ever again. Or doesn’t have scenes trying way too hard to be funny such as that stupid bus scene. Or doesn’t have horrible pacing such as Harry and Hermione having to “wait” right in the middle of an action sequence. Or awkward scenes such as Hagrid asking Harry “how am I doing” and then Harry says “great” only to have Hagrid fuck up literally 2 seconds later.

But seriously though, that Expecto Patronus scene was the most hilariously cringeworthy scene I have ever had the displeasure of watching.

reply

Emma is yummy.
