the most UNDERRATED movie of the year

nothing more to say. 5.5 out of 10??? I saw the rating and wondered if i should go see this. Fortunately i went. Honestly, I (and the rest of the spectators) didn't stop laughing for the first 2/3 of the movie. The best comedy i've seen for a long time...

(Zoolander's got 6/10, C'MON!!!)

This was a very funny movie. One of the very few bright spots for Eddie Murphy in the last 5 years. I just saw it today and it was great. Much funnier than any of the Austin Powers.

this is one of the few bad spots with eddie murphy alright one of the many bad spots with eddie murphy over the past 5 years. Theres I Spy, Showtime, Adventures of Pluto Nash,Daddy Day Care and The Haunted Mansion. Shrek 2 looks good though

Everyone has their opinions, but this movie was just dead funny. The fact that the storyline and acting was so blantantly poor, actually enhanced the comedy aspects of this film. Seeing Owen Wilson keep complaining about small little things just made me laugh constantly, but what really made me fall to the floor in agonising pain of laughter was the bit where Eddie Murphy starts singing to Owen Wilson so that he can tell the secret agent lady (Famke Jansen) he fancys her. This bit gave me a belly laugh that lasted for a good minute. True genius!!! Eddie Murphy may make some crappy movies but, he himself knows that people watch him for his comedy talents and not for making some kinda masterpiece of film. Take for example, "Golden Child". This is one of my all time favourite comedy classics, simply because of the completely hilarious screenplay and Eddie Murphys genius whe it comes to making jokes.

I thought it was ok, i've seen worse.

But as usual i didn't laugh even one time.

I must say that this movie was completely disappointing. I thought the whole movie was flat. While I have never seen the tv series, I just did not like it or the plot. They tried to make Owen Wilson into some sort of Max Smart-esque spy and failed. They tried to have Eddie Murphy be like Rod Tidwell and failed. I liked ShowTime, but could not stand this. The only spy movie that makes this look good is Goldmember.

The idle rich are hard to entertain

Just out of curiosity, is there ANYONE out there who actually saw the original series this is "based" on? Or even went to see this movie because it was supposed to be "based" on the series with Bill Cosby and Robert Culp?

Can you tell my problem with this movie (besides the fact that it seems so half-hearted and perfunctory) is that it uses the title of the (far superior) TV series when it has nothing to do with the series?

And no, I don't blame the failure of this movie on Owen Wilson or Eddie Murphy.

I was watching this movie on TV and was getting ready to flick it over after 5 min coz i thought it looked crap (another James Bond type spoof(YAWN)). Oh my god i could not believe how funny it was. I almost pissed myself watching this. Eddie Murphy is back to his best and and the addition of Owen Wilson just makes this a comedy match made in heaven. I have only seen it once but am thinkin of purchasing this movie on DVD, does anyone know if the extras are any good?
So i totally agree that it is highly underated. I dont even remember it being advertised when i t was in the cinema.

reply

yea but look how long it took lol and there should be a i spy 2 thts wat most spy films do

reply

I don't care what the critics say, this movie was the best! The chemistry between the two main characters was awesome. It wasn't focused on just the spy part of it, it was on the comedy. Who says a movie has to be technically right in every sense to be entertaining. I didn't go to the theatre to watch a documentary like someone said before, I went to get entertained and it sure did entertain me. I give it a 10/10 so I do agree that it was COMPLETELY underrated.

reply

I thought that this was the most boring, unfunny, slow, dreadful film I've eevr seen. Just my opinion though, so don't bash me.

DOGGIE GO WALKIES?!-MST3K, Manos.

8.5 out of 10.

If they changed the ending the movie was much better, i generally really liked it until the end, it did have many funny parts.

[SPOILER]

Was it really necessary to make Famke Janssen a double agent? Her scene with Owen Wilson was great (sexual healing) and they were good onscreen, aswell as with Eddie Murphy. The fact that she turned bad meant if there was a sequel, she'd be very unlikely to star, which pisses me off because she was great in the movie.
Also, the end was so unsatisfying, a small shootout on a roof with "Carlos" coming in at the end etc etc.

If they do make a sequel, make Famke like a triple agent or something so she can star with Wilson and Murphy.

2/10 (doesn't even deserve a 1/10 :D )
Just forget it !

People just want it to be this intelligent clever comedy, when they really just made it to be goofy and have fun! Great movie. People take things, even comedies, too seriously.

reply

one of the the most underrated funniest movies ever, nothing but laughs.

reply

Those who didn't like Shanghai Noon won't like this, but personally I love Owen Wilson's buddy comedies, and although I thought that Owen and Jackie Chan had an even more entertaining film presence, I definitely liked seeing him with Eddie Murphy. I loved the perfect combination of intense action and comedy, and I think that this is a very underrated movie, though I'm not suprised that critics weren't exactly raving about it.

reply

It was goddamn hilarious.

Funny

I thought it was great. Alittle too silly at times but, still very funny. The scene on the airplane was so funny I rewound and watched it twice.

Actually I found it hilarious. Weren't expecting that. But then, of course, I laugh at anything.

I will NEVER know how anyone could dislike this; let alone hate it! It had that charm to it. I didn't for a SECOND feel like it was a ho-hum, generic affair. The jokes all were spot on and the pacing kept me intrigued without fail. How perfect.
