Beyonce Ruined The Movie

I liked this movie, except I found that Beyonce's dreadful performance ruined it for me. She and Mike Meyers had no chemistry whatsoever. They barely even touched throughout the entire film. Her performance was flat and one dimensional and unnecessary. They should have hired an actual actress.

agreed. she has not proven to be a good actress, and comedy asks for really good timing and character, non of which she had.

reply

Just goes to show you, a pretty face is nothing more than that.

HOW CAN ONE PERSON RUIN A FILM, I MEAN HONESTLY!!! HEATHER GRAHAM ISNT A GREAT ACTRESS EITHER, BUT SHE'S BLONDE SO ITS LIKE SUPER KOOL, HUH LIKE OK?!

reply

You're all idiots, that's not even Beyonce.

That's Marlon Wayans in whiteface in blackface.

But I can see how one could fall into that misconzepshun.

reply

You guys are on drugs. All she had to do was do a Pam Grier impression, and she did it fine. You're just saying she was bad because you want her to be bad.

I AM NOT MONTEL WILLIAMS.

yep definitely unfunny. Not that the female lead is supposed to be funny but they should assist the comedy On the other hand, Elizabeth Hurley was a lot better

reply

I don't blame Beyonce, it was large part the fault of the writers too, but her PART did bring the film down. Her character was boring, and lacked all the sizzle and "personality" that the previous 2 actresses brought to their roles.

To those blaming peoples dislike on racism or jealously - no, I WANTED to like her in the film, but couldn't. Sure some racists will jump on the bandwagon, but most peoples dislike of her character and performance are genuine and reasonable.

"Goldmember"'s an awful film with or without Beyoncé, but, agreed, she didn't help matters any. Being pretty isn't an alternative to turning in a good performance.

The Austin Powers movies are just silly fun, exactly the kind of movie you need when you want a silly diversion.

Since the movies use a lot of little vignettes and musical interludes, Beyonce was a good choice for a Powers girl. There really weren't a whole lot of places for her to show acting ability, definitely not as much as in the first two movies. The script was calculated to display her as eye candy.

Later, Beyonce got a meatier role in "Obsession," which was an awful "Fatal Attraction" rehash. So yeah, maybe she should stick to music.

reply

Of course they're fun — no one's debating whether the "Austin Powers" films are supposed to be "meaningful," in any more-serious way. "Goldmember," however, isn't fun — it's just lame, stupid, and uninspired.

To my taste, Beyoncé had no charisma, no charm; she stuck out like an obnoxious piece of cardboard in every scene they threw her into. She didn't bring anything entertaining into her character, and about an hour into the already-dull film, I recall finding myself wanting her to just go away.

Thats pretty much her altogether. I still dont get the hype over her. Her role in the film seemed like a bad cross-promotion. She could've just had a cameo while Foxy could've been played by someone who can actually act and has charisma and a stronger presence.

I really never noticed her performance and I have trouble getting past the "Goldmember" character (discusting and unfunny) and Seth Green's horrible performance once Scott went "evil" I woudl have loved for Scott to have gone good and helped Austin.

sig: I'm actually thinking he should thank Jack, then Cole, then maybe me.

reply

Completely agree. The only thing she brought to the movie was her beauty.

reply

Thats because Mike Meyers DOES NOT like Black ppl.

Beyonce was easily my favorite thing about this movie!

reply

2 things here. first , your as dumb as i thought. and lastly this is why i have lost all faith in humanity. thank you.

Anytime!

Beyonce did what she could with an underdeveloped character. Not that her performance was anything special, but Foxy Cleopatra had so little to do...

reply

i liked her more than Heather Graham who little to no comic timing. I thought Beyonce had pretty good timing considering this was her first major role. I also thought she successfully poked fun at the type of character she was MEANT to portray. I thought she nailed it.

I agree with the OP. I found the movie to just as good as 'The Spy Who Shagged Me' but the female lead in that as well as 'Goldmember'. Heather Graham is perfect eye candy but not an impressive actress. Her performance was very bland. Sadly, Beyonce's character was so over the top cliche it was hard to believe it wasn't just the famous singer playing a part. And to be completely honest, I've seen children in community plays acting with more credibility. How much fault can be placed on the actress though considering she displays no real talent for acting and yet she was cast anyways. I get the feeling the director gave up and didn't work at getting a decent performance out of her. I found it hard to watch. It bothered me and I caught myself cringing a few times. Overall the movie was very funny and I enjoyed the other characters. But when Beyonce shares the screen with Michael Caine it is painfully obvious that she was there simply because she has sold millions of records.

The Spy Who Shagged Me was less funny because of Heather Graham and Goldmember was very much less entertaining because of Beyonce. With a better female lead it could have been much better.
