What was the moment that first 'sold' Trailer Park Boys for you?

Like many fans, I remember being very put off by this show before even giving it a chance. One late night, I was staying up until 1:30 am on a Friday and I remember the final episode of Season 1 rolled around. I thought it was a real documentary at first. I reluctantly watched a bit and found myself slowly drawn to the story. Then a chuckle here and there. About 1/2 way through, I "got" the show's humour/sense of parody. I thought it was genius. But the 2 moments that killed me and made me a fan forever were:

#1. The grocery store robbery. I don't think I had ever laughed so hard in my entire life.

#2. When Bubbles brags about his "tuxedo". It broke my heart, and really me to the character and the show's ability to convey happiness as a matter of perspective.

What about you guys?

I thought the show was humorous when I first started watching. Every television show take a few episodes to settle in for me (with the exception of Justified). Episode 4 was what hooked me, when Trinity shot Ricky in the ass. Later on in the episode, Ricky is shot again, while stealing the tractor to pay Sam for stitching up the first gunshot wound. I nearly lost it at that point.

Season 2's The Bible Pimp arguably has my favorite line. When the Bible Salespeople were talking to Bubbles;

Bible sales lady: "Have you read the bible?"

Bubbles: "Maybe I have, maybe I haven't, what's it to you?"

Bible Sales Man: "Can you read my son?"

Bubbles: "Well that depends, can you go *beep* yourself?"

When Trinity got arrested and Ricky went to court to get her released. It was the first episode I watched. After that episode I was hooked and started watching from season 1 and made it all the way to season 9. Looking forward to season 10..

Most likely when Ricky was happy to live in Julians car, and the serious dialogue between the two of them when Julian gives Ricky a two weeks notice to "move out of the car"

To be fair, I'd had it built up a bit by co-workers at the time. DVDs began flying off the shelves so I tuned in.
Maybe that's my response- around season 4 or something when the DVDs were hot as *beep*

I kept loyal to the show until S7 which was the ultimate crescendo season for me- Conky's return & their finest finale episode & wrap up.

I still watch the 3 movies, & the Christmas special. + I've listened to every TPB podcash since nearly a year now- probably most 2-3x times.

Ricky ep 2 i think when he has settled to living in that car. cooking chicken fingers on the roof, making kool aid with garden hose. great *beep*

TMI: I actually did live out of a car (though only for a few weeks) and weirdly the scene(s) had a kind of sentimental value for me. Something about how free and carefree Ricky is makes me envy him . hhahahaahahahaah.

we shook our fists at the punishing rain
& WE CALLED UPON THE AUTHOR TO EXPLAIN!!!!!

You're not the only one to have lived in a car. Most people see that scene & laugh. I see it and think "Dude, you're doing it all wrong!"

The scene that sold me was when Ricky burned down Bubble's shed. Mike Smith's acting in that scene tore me up.

"You always half-scared me"

"That's because you're smart"

reply

This line from Julian in Season 1:

"Why don't you try doing something with your life for once instead of living in this car like a drunken idiot, eating chicken fingers...GETTING DRUNK!"

I was sold after that.

"Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!"

First episode I remember seeing was the one where Ricky moved into his car in Julian's yard and tried to steal a cat from bubbles to guard his pot plants from squirrels. It was so absurd and funny I was pretty much hooked immediately.

What are words for when no one listens anymore
