DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE

The film has disturbed me more than I could ever have imagined. I deeply encourage anyone thinking about watching this film no too, one of the biggest regrets I have. It was more grotesque, shocking, sick and horrible than any other film out there, and I cannot believe it got through censorship. Whilst the acting and thoughts behind it are brilliant, this by no means should have been a film - Rape is something more horrendous than anything in this world, and that scene will never leave my mind.

doing things to people against their will is basically the definition of evil, you can not leave rape out of movies because even the mildest conflicts are extensions of the same basic concept of domination

The film did it's job. It stuck with you.

Also, Irreversible is nothing compared to other movies. Try watching A Serbian Film or Salo 120 days of Sodom.

The rape scene in Pulp Fiction was equally disturbing. But since it was a guy taking it in the backdoor there it was more acceptable right...

if you do not show traumatic events realistically for what they are and as you describe them, we as human beings create myths about rape, joke about rape, even glorify it. Rape is unfortunately all around us and the numbers are staggering. Thank God someone is showing it for what it is...

What's wrong with being disturbed? Some of the best films out there are disturbing. :)

Everyone who has seen this movie always mentions the rape scene. IMO, the guy getting his head pummeled by the fire extinguisher is far more violent and disturbing but nobody mentions that. I've never seen a movie where a woman gets her head beaten to a pulp like that. Why is it that a scene with violence against a woman gets all sorts of attention but violence against men gets a "ho hum" response? I find this fact quite disturbing.

Long live the 70's!
