Anyone else who thought the movie sucked??

I saw it yesterday at the sneak preview and it was the wordt movie ever. I mean, what is the director trying to do: is it a critical movie about corruption in the LAPD, or is it just another bad police movie? I saw at least three mistakes in the movie, the acting was bad, the lighting was bad, everything sucked. I especially hated the main characters and I could't care less, when Bobby died. And imdb.com compares this movie with L.A. Confidential? Get out of here!

Ps. Is there anyone who agrees??

reply

I totally agree mate, what a terrible film. It was just another predictable cop film that had a very flimsy storyline. The Acting was horrendous and the characters were very sterotypical.

reply

The movie did suck. But Kurt Russell is always solid. They need to surround him w/ a good script and quality actors.

I just think this movie would have been better if someone else had directed it. Ron Shelton just didn't seem to be trying at all. And for the most part it was blindingly dull, with nothing really of interest happening at all. Antoine Fuqua, who directed Training Day, or James Foley, who directed The Corruptor, would have done a better job. Or, just imagine what this would have been like if Tarantino had done it instead.

First of all this movie did not suck!

reply

Is that your best comeback, gossip95? Because, really, it isn't changing my mind. This movie blew. Nothing of interest truly happened here. There was no energy. There was no fun in this film. There was no suspense in this film. There was not a single interesting character or interesting line of dialogue in this film. I was bored to tears after about 45 minutes of it, but finished watching it anyway, just waiting for something to happen to make me like the film. That never happened. Granted, Kurt Russell is a great actor and has done good work before but this was not good work here. Everyone was boring and looked bored. If I want to watch a good Kurt Russell cop movie, then frankly I'll watch "Unlawful Entry" because at least that film is eventful and things happen in that film that maintain my interest. Give me a Kurt Russell film where he's being terrorized by Ray Liotta anyday and I'll be happy. Give me this film and I'll *beep* slap you.

Unlawful Entry is good and so was Dark Blue, everyone has opinions and yours doesnt matter to me.

If my opinion doesn't matter, then why do you continue to respond to it?

It wasn't a great movie, but it didn't suck either.

It has two weak points, IMHO. Pedestrian direction (well, maybe editing) and overwrought dialogue. It could have been a great movie, with some more tweaking, but I didn't have any problem with the performances or overall story.

hey jejones just wanted you to know everything about the blade movies was stupid and bad...they made me want to puke...i bet you liked underworld too

reply

NOTHING will ever change your "mind" about anything. The way you post on this board speaks volumes.

reply

Shelton's directing style wasn't well suited to the subject of DARK BLUE. The blocking, shotmaking etc. were all too pedestrian and direct for this kind of picture -- too much like TIN CUP.

jejones1 is correct: James Foley could have given this movie some juice. But even he would have had to struggle with some of the actors, whose skills and charisma weren't all that.

reply

yea the story was pretty boring but kurt russel gave a good performance 4/10

I thought this movie was one of the silliest things I have ever seen. It was ridiculuous, prison style, Chino!

I personally thought it was a pretty good movie but not as good as I expected. I would say that Training Day and Narc are similar movies and both are better.

I did think that Kurt Russell gave an exxcellent performance but Scott Speedman can't act for s**t!

reply

would have been much better if denzel washington or if ray liotta was in it.

reply

I think the movie was good, but could have been much better. If it wasn't for Gleeson and Russell the movie would be nigh unwatchable. Ving Rhames played an important character, but his acting ability was mostly wasted IMHO. Speedman was poorly cast...he lacked the ability to keep up with Russell's performance, and I didn't believe him as a cop.

Regarding the corny dialogue, this movie *was* a period piece...people did talk like that (unfortunately). "Affirmatron" was hilarious, but I remember people talking like that.

This movie had twinges of LA Confidential and certainly felt like an Elroy story, but the editing was too loose, the acting not solid throughout, and the pacing poorly handled. The whole subplot with Michelle's and Speedman's characters felt contrived... it was completely unnecessary.

In the end, I'd consider this movie slightly better than the average cop drama, only due to Russell and Gleeson.

IMO much better then " Training Day " - Kurt in on of his best roles !

- " Travis Bickle: How's everything in the pimp business? " -

reply

The trailer for it looked good but I couldn't really get into the film... I preferred Training Day.

reply

Yeah I totally agree. I rented it out of the video shop in the knowledge that it had a lot of good reviews from the critics. Half way through I was bored to tears. Kurt Russel was playing the drunk cop (haven't seen that role before!), and playing it badly, ving Rhames continues to drop down the listings since doing Pulp Fiction, and as for Russel's partner, acting lesson's required!!!

Dissapointing film!!

reply

I don't think that the movie is horrible, but I think the previews made it out to look much better. At best, it is a movie worth one viewing, and that's it.

If you want movies in which Kurt Russell plays badly, go watch Soldier, Executive Decision or Stargate. Dark Blue is a very decent film and if people think several inconsistencies and mistakes, i.e. 3 or even 10, is much, go watch movies like Blade II, where logic is not Paramount, several relationalities to part one are rather unyieldy, and the whole still makes a decent package. I do agree somewhere half along the way it slightly sinks into a low, but the scene in court at the end is exquisite.
