Dark Blue vs Narc vs Training Day

Which is better?

1.Narc
2.Training Day
3.Dark Blue - Kurt Russell is an actor who I always like to see about though he great

reply

I agree with your list.
1.Narc
2.Training Day
3.Dark Blue

reply

Not seen Narc so Training Day then Dark Blue.

reply

1. Training Day - This is one of those movies that I've seen literally 50 times and I'm still not sick of watching it.
2. Narc - Liotta's and Patric's performances were great.
3. Dark Blue - Well, it was okay.

reply

Training Day seemed to have more tension throughout the movie. Narc was frenetically paced in the opening, Dark Blue was more of an eventual buildup.
1.Training Day
2.Narc
3.Dark Blue - seems like Ron Shelton's films are curiously mimic real events - corruption in the L.A.P.D, then a allegory to (Biggie execution (allegedly) by Cops) from the Hollywood Homicide story.

reply

Haven't seen "Narc" but "Dark Blue" is decent and better than "Training Day". "Training Day" was bad. An expirienced cop who took year to develop a web of corruption and reveals all of it to a ROOKIE IN ONE DAY? *beep* ridiculous, man.

reply

C'mon you gotta be kidding me.. Training Day

The Dark Blue - Cuz of Kurt Russel

Narc - I don't like Jason Patric. Violence was great though

Apparently you didn't pay attention to detail in this movie. This was a make or break day for the rookie. He had 2 choices that day, he either was going to join in on the corruption or choose not to..

The thing you have to understand though is this, the experienced corrupt veteran cop had it in his mind the whole time that the rookie was going to either join him and his boys in the corruption, or DIE.

So why not reveal everything to him if your plan is to rub him out if he doesn't cooperate.

Things just didn't work out as he planned...

training day wasnt bad, its all about preference. the story was kind of weak. what makes it so worth watching is the detail of the movie, the way its displayed, and the great acting jobs. its basically just hitting you with the reality straightforward.

dark blue had a more developed plot and expands a bit more on specific issues, and also had great acting.

overall, i'd say training day and dark blue are tied.

SJI, if you dont understand why denzel told hawke(the rookie cop) about everything in one day in Training Day, then you desperately need to watch it again. There was a lot of reason behind that that you obviously didnt get, according to your post.

1. Training Day- unrealistic in terms of the cop work used in the movie, but if you can just enjoy the parts where denzel is in shoot outs instead of questioning why hes not filling out 3 months of paper work for firing his gun, then you will love the movie. ive seen this movie upward of 20 times and it never gets old. its in my top 5 list and spawned my 2nd favorite quote ever from a movie...."my nigah"....favorite quote being, "i only came here to do 2 things, drink some beer and kick some azz, beers almost gone"

2. Narc- i just got done watching this like 5 minutes ago for the 1st time and it was a very solid movie

3. Dark Blue- sucked bad, acting sucked bad, i only watched like an hour of it be4 i turned it off

reply

I luved Narc, I mean if William Friedkin calls it the best cop movie he's ever seen than it must be. I'll go NARC, Training Day, Dark Blue, but they're definately all solid movies. Kudos to the rza guy who included a Dazed and Confused quote in his post.

1st place: Narc, because it was the most original, realistic, and entertaining.
2nd place: Training Day, becuase it was more original and cinematic than Dark Blue.
3rd place: Dark Blue, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as the other two.

I like this topic. How about this - which film do you think most accurately reflects (if it is in your realm of experience to know or not) actual crime on the streets of L.A., as it relates to gangs, drugs, police corruption, etc. There are plenty of examples to choose from, all of which share that same L.A. "feel" (I think so, anyway); stuff like Colors, Boyz in the Hood, Training Day, Dark Blue, Falling Down, and my favorite, the television series The Shield.
All these examples could exist in the same continuity, as far as I'm concerned.

reply

My Criminal Justice teacher always raved about the Shield, saying its the most realistic cop show out there.

reply

sounds like a pretty good teacher then, because it rolesquite frighteningly similar to how that show is presented.

reply

Training Day was brilliant. I would watch it again and again.

Dark Blue was good. I would watch it once.

Narc was garbage. The characters and the things they did did not make sense.

The characters in Narc didn't make sense but Training Day was brilliant? hahahahahaha I'm a fan of both, but Training Day clearly takes the most liberties with realism in the police world.

RON SHELTON RUINED THIS *beep* MOVIE. It was a great script with a great cast.

I haven't seen NARC yet. It's on my "to see" list though espcially since I liked Training Day and Dark Blue.

I liked Dark Blue a little bit more because we get to see the "dirty cop" getting heat from his superiors and how it all comes crashing down on him in the snap of a finger.

reply

I would say training day & narc are on the same level(equally superb performances but ethan hawke's rookie idealist cop is a little bit better than the fmr. UC cop so training day edges it out a little:

1) training day
1b) Narc
2) L.A. confidential
3)dark blue

thought i'd thrown in L.A. confidential since it is a good cop movie set in the true glory of hollywood and that dark blue was good up to a point( holding together were the performances of kurt russell & scott speedman)

reply

Narc, all the way.

2- Dark Blue
3- Training Day

Not to say that Training Day was a bad movie... all 3 are very good movies... but I thought Narc was one of the best cop movies I've ever seen. Dark Blue was also excellent, I think Kurt Russell was excellent in this movie. Training day in my opinion was a good movie but not as good as the other two.
