I don't understand why this movie has such low ratings on IMDB, RottenTomatoes, and Metacritic. I think this is one of the best parody movies ever.

Don't get me wrong I can't stand any Friedberg/Seltzer flick, those movies deserve horrible ratings.

I think this movie has developed somewhat of a cult following.

Definitely underrated. I've seen this movie COUNTLESS times, I'm currently watching it on basic cable right now. It has held up for all these years.

It is. Have you checked out the cast commentary from the DVD?
Quite hilarious hearing their reactions to the movie.

I completely don't understand the incredibly low rating of this movie. It is far better than most comedies of this type. It doesn't deserve a rating of 5.6, IMO.

gotta agree. No way this should be sitting at a 5.6 right now. Think in a lot of ways it gets marked down just for being part of a genre with so many bad movies. But this isn't one of them. Its parody done largely right with a lot of hilarious moments.

It seems better than it is, but it does have some laughs, and a lot of cool homages.

Just rewatched it on netflix instant. I still love it I have not seen it in years.

I think the reason it gets such poor reviews is that a lot of people hold it to the same standards that you might an acclaimed drama. In order to enjoy this kind of movie, you need to just accept it for what it is: a silly spoof best watched at 3 am on a Sunday morning while totally stoned out of your mind. Would I nominate it for an Academy Award? Of course not, but it more than fulfilled its purpose of providing me with an hour and a half of mindless laughter.

Definitely has something of a cult following. It does hold up better than any other meta genre parody. It even spoofs Grease, for crying out loud.

It's a cult classic in my opinion. Too dumb (let's be honest) for the majority but too funny for the select few. I'm happy I'm in the select few. This and Top Secret are special parodies.
