a word is not offensive, the way u wanna use it actually is.
u can say retard and not mean to be offensive and u can use mentally challenged and mean it to be offensive
it differs from someone to another, maybe at some point u use retard instead of mentally challenged coz u can't find that exact word at that moment
maybe English is not ur first language and u don't have a lot of words to use for something so u pick the one u remember
like black ppl, I always thought black is offensive coz they r more likely brown and not black so I wanted to use dark ppl but then some might think dark is offensive and prefer black and some would prefer African American
it is how u wanna use it and what do u really mean, not the word itself.
