Did anybody else feel this way?

I was explaining to my friend about the film and i explained it as, It was the type of movie that you walk away from saying "It was the stupidest, strangest, dumbest move but some how, I loved it. I don't have any clue in hell how i love this film but i love it"

Does anybody else feel like they don;t know how in the world they like the movie but do anyway. That is how i feel. Honestly, it is one of my favorite movies and my favorite comedy.

Let me know!

i think people just had a hard time realizing it was a comedy. and that comedies dont have to be perfect. i laughed my ass off several times. it wasnt a constant thing, but there were funny parts. yeah, it was ridiculous. but thats sorta the point..

maybe its just b/c i went into it thinking it was going to be absolutely terrible, that i ended up liking it so much. but i really found it quite entertaining.

it sucked gorilla balls

You're love of the halfling's leaf has clearly slowed your mind.

I loved it because of the rocket thing. Because of the songs (like My stepdad's not mean, he's just adjusting, because of the face Edward Norton says when he says "If he's abusive to you or mommy, what are the magic numbers?" There are so many hilarious things in the movie. I loved it because I have a big fat obsessive crush on Edward Norton. And he made the movie great! Robin Williams kind of annoyed me, though.
But overall, Death to Smoochy is understandably an AWESOME movie!
And it has a point. About corruption, etc.

you obviously like shiitty movies.

You are obviously too narrow minded to realise that your taste in movies is not final, which therefore makes you a *insert insult here*.........

I loved this film, though I did find it dark and disturbing and I can sum up the reason I loved it in two words...Edward Norton. I thought he was brilliant in this film and made it worth watching.

Dudes ! that scene when he's "performing" for those nazi's...great stuff

best scene !

I thought it was tremendously goofy....but I liked it, in spite of it's stupidity...:D

I feel more that way (strangest, dumbest, etc.) about Hudson Hawk...
I actually quite liked this movie, thought it was actually good. Not the best movie ever or anything, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

Yes, and it's funny you say so because the whole time I was watching it I was thinking "This movie is all sorts of f*c*ed up..." But I couldn't help but like it!

It was a perfect presentation on my sense of humor. I loved the sublety and the over-the-top sharing the same space.

I feel the exact same way. I absolutely love this movie!! I don't know what's up with all the haters.

Seeing it's Danny DeVito and the whole movie was filled with people dying I was drading the end, but it ended up being one of the happiest endings in a movie I'd seen in a while.

The ending alone makes the movie.

I'm actually watching the movie for the umpteenth zillion time... It's my copy that Jon Stewart actually autographed "He's pancake syrup with legs - Jon Stewart". He kind of looked at me like I'd had some kind of head injury when I asked him to sign my copy that way. I think it's completely brilliant and I laugh more each time I watch it. Breaks my heart that Danny DeVito leads into his commentary with something like "We've had the mourning for Smoochy" (he did the commentary after Smoochy had left the theatres). Dear Danny, NEVER EVER regret this movie. "My Stepdad's not mean, he's just adjusting" should go down in the lexicon of greatest film songs EVER. Irish Mafia, corrupt children's charity, children's show hosts who are drug mules... and all the other ricketa-racketa make this one of my favorite films.

I thought it was odd, but very funny. I think there was a point in the movie that never really got to the finish line.

But at this point, I'd pay to watch Edward Norton read the phone book, he's so compelling and talented.

Man, though, I'd love a picture of him with those big purple pants and no shirt. He looked amazing in big purple pants. Who can carry that off? It was hysterical.

I was totally into this film the whole way through. It was an Edward Norton that i hadn't seen before. ( me and my friends sing the stepdad song all the time, that is priceless) but i must say at the end when he kindda reverts back to one of his other characters ( you *beep* with the wrong rhino) he reminded me of derredck from AHX of Jack from the Score. That's what really made me love this movie.

Keep your ticket, you'll need that later.

I just saw this movie today and I don't know why but I thought it was a very good movie so I looked it up on IMDB and found out that the film lost money both in the US and internationally and did not even make back the 55 million in production costs. I thought at least DVD rental sales would have made up for the lackluster appearance in theatres.

I was disappointed for Danny Devito who directed the production as well. Too bad it lost money and that critics were so vitriolic about this film. I thought it was good fun. Odd, but good fun. Edward Norton as Smoochy? That is hilarious!! John Stewart????? What a larck!

If you look at production values and script development it was pretty good. Why didn't people like it?? Unknown variable?

Kudos

I think this kind of black comedy is sometimes a little too intense for that all-important 18-34 demographic to understand and enjoy.

Just saw it for the first time. I really loved it, it may have something to do with the fact that Smoochy was played by Edward Norton, I don't know if I would have been interested in watching this had he not been in it. Of course I thought he was really good in it. He's so talented and versatile, I can't help but be in awe watching him onscreen. I also liked Catherine Keener in it. One of my fave scenes was when she was starring at Smoochy with only and undershirt on and in sorta a shock at how how he was then her immature reaction afterwards...haha.

you know what - I love this film! I just rewatched it last night - for the first time in ages - (I just saw The Illusionist and am going back into my Ed Norton phase). He is just the BEST actor - I love how he can be in such edgy films, being so intense...then can star in this as a chiper "golly gee" magenta rhino!
He's the reason I saw this film - and the reason I love it.
