What's the most touching moment of this movie?

For me it's couple of them infact.

When PK Dubey brings a Marigold Heart to Alice.
When Hemant Rai forgives Ria and says we can make life despite what happened.
When Lalit Verma's character makes a stand and asks Tej Puti to leave and tells Aditi that he is there for her and he believes her or to that extent.

I guess my couple means more than 2.

For me it was definately when Dubey and Alice were getting married and were standing on the bridge in the rain under the marigold 'unbrella'. So Dubey got his wish, the next tent he made was for his own wedding. It was so sweet because its obvious that Alice is of a lover caste and unlikely that she could look foreward to a lot of the things associated with a traditional wedding, but Dubey tries to give her those things, on a smaller scale (the necklace for the bridal jewelry, and the marigold canopy. I thought that their romance was made all the sweeter in comparison to the soap-opera surrounding the other one, very understated. but then I didn't really like Ria, I felt like she needed to get over her obsession with her married beau, and why drag it into her relationship with Hemant Rai? It seemed very selfish and immature.

so yeah, theres my (more than) two cents.

reply

Ria was the cousin of the bride; the name of the honest bride was Aditi.

for me the most touching moments are: 1. when Lalit is talking to Ria and says, "Don't go Ria. If you leave, everything will break." There is a lot of emotion involved in that scene, and it makes me cry everytime i see it. :)
2. When Lalit tells Tej Puri to leave his family, because "these are my children, and I will protect them from myself if i have to."
3. When Dubey brings the marigold heart to Alice and kneels before her with the candles behind him, it was very very sweet.
4. When Hemant and Aditi have reconciled after she told him the truth, and they are standing on the balcony during the sangeet, and Hemant kisses her.

I definately think the most touching moment was when Dubey and Alice got married on the brigde. I think that that was the real monsoon wedding... and in a way, I thought the movie would have been better (although I loved it anyway) if they had ended with the image of Dubey and Alice on the brigde. But I loved the whole storyline with those two. So romantic!

I swear I never cry at movies but this scene makes me cry each time. It is so touching!! That's devoted love.

For me the most touching moment in the movie, is when Ria's uncle stands up for her and tells his brother-in-law, Tej, to leave the wedding.

Indeed, I'd say it is one of the most moving moments I have seen in any movie.

Part of the reason it is moving is because Lalit relies very heavily on Tej, including financially. We hear early in the movie that Tej is the head of the family after Ria's father died. It was a BIG, BIG thing for Lalit to cut his ties with Tej, particularly given that this meant believing his niece and not believing his brother-in-law.

We often see, in cinema, husbands defend wives, parents defend children and friends defend each other. However, I can't recall any other movie where an uncle stands up for his niece, particularly when it would have been much easier to gloss over - or worse still dismiss - her claims.

I guess part of the reason this scene strikes a cord is because I have no children of my own, but am blessed with 16 non-blood nieces and nephews. I have known most of them since they were very young children, when I first dated their aunt, now my wife. A week never goes by when I don't see at least one or two of them. I cherish them as much as though they were my own flesh and blood.

I just hope I would have Lalit's courage should courage such as his be called for.

Exactly, my fav touching moment of this movie, is when lalit takes a stand and asks tej puri to leave.. and tells him, "Please leave bhai, these are my children and i will protect them even from myself if i have to"

reply

The most touching scene for me is definitely when Lalit begs Ria not to leave. ("If you go, everything will break" - AAAAAAAHHHHH! Has me in tears everytime I hear it!) My tears welled up just reading all the posts on this thread. I saw MW the first time a few weeks before my own wedding, so I have a lot of fond and deep emotions connected to this movie!

reply

For me it was when Dubey tries to contact Alice after the stealing incident. She is sitting on the stairs and she leaves him after seing him...

reply

I really liked the scene where Dubey catches Alice when she tries on the wedding jewelry of Ria. The way he can carry his devotion with his eyes was truly great.

reply

OK, i think i might be mistaken, but isn't the bride's name ADITI and her cousin, RIA? I watched the movie a few times and they always refer to the bride as Aditi and the cousin as Ria.

I think you are right

I think the most touching moment is like where Lalit(the father) stands up for his family. You can see it is such a difficult decision for him. it was very touching because I don't know what i would have done in such a situation.

reply

Pretty easy decision for me. Castrate the guy and bleed him to death.

in the cab the bride (Aditi) calls her cousin (Ria) "didi", which means "sister" in Hindi, used here as a term of endearment and signifier of their closeness.

reply

The part where Verma and his wife are standing over Ria and Aditi's bed while they are sleeping and says: "I have more love for them than I can bear."

Also, when Verma stands up for Ria in front of the whole family.

For me one of the most touching moments of this movie is when the whole family is gathered for taking photos - in the end. We can see their expression, their gaze, their smile and we know "everything" like we are members of that family.

reply

Several moments-the three above and also the scene where Lalit goes to find Ria to bring her home.

Dubey and Alice's wedding on the bridge.

When Lalit goes to Pimmi's bed for comfort.

When Dubey returns home, lovesick and sad and goes through his house as his mother is talking to him and goes out to the terrace and sits and thinks-the sadness and pain in his face, the situation of the heart he finds himself in-really touched me.

The final shot of Lalit and Alice dancing-they are both transformed, they are both changed by love and the joy shows on their faces.

This movie has me laughing one moment-and then touched to tears the next.

For me the most touching moment were all of the aforementioned scenes, and also the scenes when Dubey and Alice first talk.

When Alice offers Dubey water when Dubey and his workers are eating outside, and he says thank you. Then she asks him if he wants tap water or fridge water. It was such an under-acted moment...that the sweetness of the small act of asking what kind of water he wanted made it even better.

And when Dubey goes into the kitchen where Alice is washing the dishes and asks for some water (drinking water seems to be the link here...LoL) and he gives her his card. Then he can't think of anything more to say, to try and impress her, so he leaves. The moment when she takes out his card, and holds it close to her chest, made me smile so broadly. I love moments like those in movies. They say more than dialogue.

For me, the most beautiful (but sad) moment comes when the woman is singing and Aditi looks so sad...if anyone knows the name of the song it would really help...it's the one that (in English) says something about "now you leave your father's house forever..." etc, very sad, very touching, sung a capella.

reply

Strange, the song you are talking about is not in the film's soundtrack. The most touching moment is when lalit goes to Pimmi's bed crying and when pimmi and lalit look at Aditi and Ria and say something to the effect of "Ih ave so much love for them i cant bear it"

reply

i'm not sure of the song's original name but it's been made into a fantastic remix by karunesh. it's called punjab and you can download it from www.coolgoose.com under punjabi songs. though it's a remix it's even more touching that the original...check it out!

reply

I THINK, but not sure, that the song you might be referring to is called "Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo", sung by Farida Kharum...but, I'm not 100% sure.

I just got done watching this movie, and I have to agree 100% with your choices for the most romantic scenes. I honestly was watching it to see those scenes in particular. I love them.

when P.K. and Alice get married...

reply

Yes, so I would have to agree with all of your choices, especially the not being able to bear all the love line that Lalit says watching the girls sleep, but I will also have to add my own, which is near the end of the movie when Lalit crawls onto his wife's bed and says "hold me, I'm falling" talking about what he has to do regarding Ria and the gross Uncle and all that and he's so shook up and confused and stressed and he wants to do the right thing, but he doesn't know how, it's so sad and so beautiful...I cry everytime.

reply

I got a bunch so here goes (I know a lot have already been mentioned, btu they stand repeating.)
Alice and Dubeyji--the marigold heart and the bridge in the rain. Also P.K. counting his money to buy Alice something nice, because he knows she deserves it and he wants to give her the best her can afford. Again the tormented walking through his house while his mother yells at him.
The rooftop make-out session with Aditi and Hemant, makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I love that one piece of music on the soundtrack, (it also plays when Dubeyji does the marigold heart.) I think it's called Love and Marigolds or something.
When Rahul takes over dancing with Ayesha and whups the other dancer's butt.
Ria's "You can do nothing, Uncle!" just about breaks my heart every time. She knows that whatever damage there is has been done to her, and at least Aliya is safe, and I can't imagine bearing such a burden silently for so many years as she obviously did.
Lalit's final stand against creepy Tej Uncle. The second that guy walked on screen I knew he was trouble. Pedophilic trouble. I have a weird 6th sense about these things, which makes watching movies or TV less fun as I can tend to predict what'll happen next, no matter how obscure. I just KNOW. And it's annoying.
The final dancing scene at the end with everyone, including Lalit and Alice.

Also, during the credits, there's snatches of film, with no dialogue, and just Ria's shared glances with Umang (the guy who arrives right at the end.) It just had me screaming: "Sequel! For the love of God, a sequel!"

Laura, I agree with all of yours, especially when Dubey returns home and goes out on the balcony in his underwear. It is such a perfect scene and tugs on the heartstrings.

If not Dubey giving the marigold hart to Alice, kneeling there, candle tree flames flickering, she lets the screen door slam, blinking in astonishment, and that one flute plays the movie's main melody ... Where any American director would have wanted to cut quickly, cut, let's move on, next scene, let's go...
She lingers there... they don't say anything... After a scene like that, a wedding on a bridge is anticlimactic.

However, no one seems to have considered the scene in which Alice crashes into Dubey, dropping glasses... as she walks away, stealing glances, the wedding planner suddenly looks troubled, thoughtful, pauses, hesitates, something he hardly ever does... almost absentmindedly he fishes a marigold out of his shirt pocket, and, looking as though it had never occurred to him to taste it, places it on his tounge... He is the wedding planner who has never foudn love, ever, and this one servant girl suddenly makes him aware of something: if marigolds are marriage flowers, if a strange act is to taste the flower, if it is a flower that has fallen into a pocket next to the heart, and the man stops, his whole world stops, and, forgetting himself, places the small orange flower in his mouth and chews it, you know from the beginning of the movie that at the end of the movie, that man will be happy.

My favorites were already said but here goes. I loved all the scenes between Dubey and Alice. Especially the one where he is watching her try on the jewelry. The whole sub-plot between them is so sweet. I also love the scene where Hemant forgives Aditi and says that he knows that the marraige will work. The whole movie was so nice to watch. You really felt like one of the family rather than just someone watching. Wonderful music too! I think I need that soundtrack.. not want.. need! :D
