Times when Larry was wrong

This thread is for times you think Larry was completely wrong with his argument, or was totally in the wrong.
For me these two stand out;

Larry repeatedly saying "chicken" to Yoshi was definitely deliberate and he has no case in 'Kamikaze Bingo' (Season 5)

Larry was definitely wrong in walking into a little girls room and cutting her dolls hair..I don't think there's any excuse for that one in 'The Doll' (Season 2)

reply

Larry is never wrong.

It's funny, because I've been watching the series again recently and I began to think about this exact subject. For the most part Larry is dead-on with his complaints and grievances, but not always with his actions in support of them.

The first item that came to mind was the stolen flowers from Mrs. Funkhauser's memorial. This was unquestionably and irrevocably wrong.

Also, the shooshing of restaurant patrons while his girlfriend performed on the piano, clearly as nothing more than casual background to the dining experience. Though this was a minor indiscretion, it was nonetheless discourteous.

A third that comes to mind, which was very funny, but extremely disconcerting was his overall treatment of "Denise Handicapped" and "Wendy Wheelchair". If you're familiar with this episode (#7.5) you surely understand what I'm talking about.

And finally, I'd have to say Larry was in the wrong when he blatantly scoffed at the news that a acquaintance's wife had a miscarriage because; according to Larry, she already had enough children. I tend to agree that 9 is quite enough, but it certainly was in very poor taste to say so in such a manner.

That doll looked way better with the haircut. He shouldn't have stolen the flowers, also I don't think he needed to kill that swan although it was a decisive manoeuvre. Yeah, he's been right about everything except for the flowers.

reply

Naaah, I think it wasnt so bad to get some flowers, nobody notices, bar funkhouser... Its just flowers they would have died there anyway, now somebody enjoys them. And it wasnt even on a grave, roadside.. come on!!

reply

The only two problems I have with your case is:

1. Larry tried to purchase his own flowers but couldn't because he only had funkhausers sweaty fifty on him and funkhauser is always screwin him over like that.

2. If you wanna have 9 kids thats your right. But in a social sense if you want people to feel sorry for a miscarriage after they already know you have 9 children I mean come on.

when Larry engaged in a wrestling fight with Diane Keaton's interior decorator. the woman was slightly crazy and she started throwing fists but Larry could've just backed down couldn't he?

it's also crazy that she kisses him when they're on the ground and anyway I don't like that episode very much. it might S1 worst.

Agreed. It's comedy and he's a comedic genius in the show and especially out of the show. He can do whatever he wants.

In regards to the more compelling arguments--

He stole some flowers from a funeral. Who *beep* cares? Western funerals are stupid anyways.

He shushes people at a restaurant for the pianist's sake. So what? I laughed, and being as objective as I can, I think I'd laugh if I was there and didn't know who he was. I mean, who does that? It's great!

One has to learn to laugh at oneself, that may be one of the most important bits of being alive.

The OP gave about the least compelling arguments for Larry's "wrongness" ever. The chicken thing is really off the mark. I do, however, think this thread is intriguing.

The phone call during sex was very Larry. He talks when making out! I mean, come on (not that that's a valid argument, just saying is all)!

And the ticket/seats for the ball game thing...what are you talking about SapphEyeR? If there are perfectly good seats available because of Funky's father dieing (or for any reason), then they should be used. That reminds me of Larry's stance on waiting for people to order/eat, it's dumb and makes things awkward.

To everyone that is somehow offended by Larry, read some philosophy, we are to use what is given to us because our time here is short, yet at the same time remain at our best and humble.

And no, I don't give a crap about the way Larry handled the miscarriage thing. He said what I would of never said in that situation and I thank him for it.

Sorry I went off there. I was just originally agree with the "Larry is never wrong" thing and move on.

Never!!!

I set my standards pretty low, so I'm never disappointed...

Larry ate pistachios while apologizing, which suggests the apology is less heartfelt than a true apology should be. Eating and apologizing is rude and there's no case to support it.

I felt Larry was wrong to confront Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen in S7EP4 "The Hot Towel" over using the gift card on Suzie and Jeff. Yeah, sure the circumstances were messed up but he wasn't right to tell people how to spend gift cards, money etc...

I can't remember the episode, but I also recall Larry confronting someone over spending the check he cut them to fix a car and the car didn't get fixed as the money was spent on something else. Again, he can't tell people what to spend their money on.

99 times out of 100, Larry is right and that's why I love the show.

reply

For me the only thing he did that was completely and utterly wrong was taking flowers from Funkhauser's mum's memorial. He could have bought flowers easily, that was bad. Other stuff he does you can argue were at least partially justified.

In the Car Periscope episode, when Larry decided to invest in the inventor's car periscope solely because he believed that the inventor had integrity due to the fact that his wife was fat and unattractive. The problem with this is that Larry was basing his decision only on the fact that he believed that the inventor was honest and wouldn't rip him off. Surely the biggest factor to consider when investing in a project is whether or not the project will make money. The car periscope inventor could have been the most honest person in the world, but if his invention didn't make any money, then it really wouldn't matter.

I thought it was wrong of him to tell the guy on the airplane not to wear shorts. People should be able to wear whatever the hell they want.

I would say how he treated Oscar's (the Green's German Shepherd) situation with such indifference when in earlier season's he has shown an affection for the dog was kinda off-putting; I generally find myself siding with Larry at least in regards to not be afraid to speak one's mind but him and Jeff just came off as cold and petty with the Pinkberry ordeal; almost to the point where the episode was trying to take Larry's selfish side to an extreme.

In the motions and the things that you say...it all will fall, fall right into place.

Out of context it's completely inappropriate. Even within context it sounds weird. But when the mother keeps referring to her daughter's genitals as her "pu***," I think Larry just does it to even the playing field with her. Speak the same, be on even ground verbally.

He does that a lot, where he'll pick up on other's speech or phrasing to for communicative equality. I think it's why he was insistent on saying n***** instead of "the n-word" too.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this:

I felt Larry was wrong when he gave Ted the shirt (Chet's Shirt episode) as a gift and it had a hole in it. Larry told Ted to just return it. Ted was right that he wasn't given a gift, but instead, a problem. Larry should have offered to return or exchange it.

reply

He has lots of points, but he goes too far alot of times.

One that i remember which hasn't brought up is how he manipulated Cheryls therapist. Thats just morally rotten emotional manipulation and fraud no matter how you look at it.

The good thing about this show is that most of what Larry does is wrong, but we are forced to see it from his side too, and when you do, he provides a real good argument that he's right. Society is pretty retarded most of the time though and I agree with Larry pretty much all the time. But society is bigger than one person so..

Rewatching the show and it took him 3 seasons to be wrong. The Nanny from Hell episode. He shouldn't of went in the house to go to the bathroom, he shouldn't of mentioned the kid's penis and he shouldn't of passed the nanny to Suzy.
