this is one of mine. another is children of men. both are so grim, almost painful to watch. maybe also stalingrad, although it isn't as good a film as the other two. watching all 3 in a row would require prozac.
Hmmm, interesting. There are many in my case Most movies by Ken Loach. Very well made and realistic. Too realistic. I know that life can be sad and squalid, no need to remind myself too often. Most movies by Lars Von Trier. He loves to torture the audience. Seven (aka Se7en). Unlike the previous ones, I wish I had NEVER watched this one and I will make sure I don't ever come near it again. But I admit it is a good Hollywood product (perhaps not very good, though)
Very few movies have affected me to a point that I cannot watch them again, usually it is individual scenes that I cannot watch. The only exception is Schindler's List - a magnificent movie but disturbing on so many levels. The girl in the red coat looks like my great niece as well, when she was a little girl, making the experience even more awful! I have seen it once,, and cannot bring myself to watch it again.
Scene wise, I have real problems watching the following scenes, not in any particular order....Sophie's Choice, say no more, the ending of Cold Mountain - went to a screening of this movie and there was an audible gasp at the scene with Jude Law at the end, Saving Private Ryan, I cannot ever see the opening scenes again, once was more than enough. Wolf Creek, the scene with the 'head on a stick', truly disturbing and so realistic.
I was reading about "The Cove', don't think I will be able to watch it, I am sure it will give me nightmares.
Okay there are movies that do this with me as well. The Pianist is a movie I can watch over and over again, because it has a good ending for one of the characters. This movie is superb in all aspects. One movie I can't watch again, but it was good both in acting, cinematography, and soundtrack was Mysterious Skin. The subject matter is difficult to handle for me personally.
I wouldn't have watched it, if I had known what the movie was about, but I got hooked and had to finish it.
there really aren't very many good movies, or what I consider good movies, that I wouldn't watch a second or third time or more. But, Million Dollar Baby with Eastwood is one i've avoided a second time so far. Thats just a movie for me that is way too down after the accident.
schindlers list for sure. although, part of that is because i dont have like 3 1/2 hours to spare in which ill want to die afterwards... ill never forget the scene where the women go into the gas chambers.
The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. This had me in floods of tears, and the ending left me feeling so sad. Schindlers List is tied with it, and while I've never cried while watching that it leaves me feeling so depressed and sad at the end. I have to be in the right frame of mind to watch either and that doesn't happen very often so as a result they are probably two of the least watched DVDs' in my collection. Still must-haves though.
My first thought was also The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Schindler's List is a movie I have seen many times, even with the horrible atrocities, it has many levels of emotional angst and drama while still being enormously entertaining/interesting. But Striped Pajamas ends on the grimmest of notes.
I would also say the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, the ending had me speechless and it's too awful for me to willingly watch again. Another one that people have said and I ahree with is Requiem for a dream. It really is one of the most depressing and disturbing films that I've ever seen.
Schindler's List and Amistad I could never watch again. So unbelievably barbaric, disturbing and horrific. It's just unimaginable people could be treated in such a way. I had nightmares after watching both.
I think I could watch "The Pianist" again... But, as far as "Schindler's List" and "Once Were Warriors" are concerned, I'm very glad to have seen them once. But, I really couldn't face watching them again.
